Some things will take me forever to understand. Why does a 1 and a half hour flight from Nairobi to Dar Es Salaam cost Ksh. 40,000 to Ksh 50,000 yet a 24 hour flight from Nairobi to China is Ksh 75,000. What exactly is going on?
Why does accomodation for one night at a four star hotel in Kenya cost Ksh 20,000 yet in China a four star hotel is Ksh 5,000 per night?
Why do borrowers in Kenya pay an interest rate of 18% to 22% for loans yet in China the interest rate is 3%. How will a kenyan company that is borrowing to expand its manufacturing technology or equipment compete with a chinese company that is borrowing 1 billion dollars at 3%?

Imara steel did not come to play with KRA.
There is a company called Imara steel. They cook metals to make mabati in Industrial Area, Nairobi.
In 2022, as they were busy cooking metals,
KRA was busy cooking their tax bill at Times Tower.
When KRA was done, what came out was 3.9B.
This bill covered 5 years.
- 2015, 2016, 2017,2018, 2019
Next morning, KRA airdropped the bill to Imara steel email.
When the director arrived at the office, the accountant stormed in. Akamsalimia. Then served him the bill even before chai.
The director looked at the numbers. He could not believe it. He thought his magnifying glasses were magnifying the numbers. He removed them.
He saw the same mad numbers live live.
• 3.9B.
He went nuts.
• Lesson 1: Never allow your accountant into your office before the tea person.
Director ordered the accountant to turn the fans on. There is no electricity. He is now worked up proper.
The accountant sneaked out.
And immediately embarked on a fault finding mission.
He came back with disturbing findings:
1. KRA was out of time for 2015 and 2016. Those years were beyond the 5 year statutory audit limit. Unless there is fraud. KRA had shown no fraud.
2. KRA had assumed 23% profit margins. Figures Imara had never achieved.
Wakasema baas. This is it.
They wrote an objection / protest letter to KRA. Explained everything. And demonstrated they had paid taxes to the last cent.
KRA could not hear any of it. They only wanted 3.9B.
In June 2022, KRA rejected the objection. And confirmed Imara must pay the 3.9B.
All this time, the accountant is not sleeping nor eating.
Amekanyanga tu wire.
Then something interesting happened.
KRA sent the rejection letter to the wrong email. And never realized.
So 60 days passed. No response is received from KRA.
Imara knew the law. If KRA does not respond within 60 days, your protest is deemed accepted.
They knew they had won. Director called the party.
Six months later, in Dec 2022, KRA came back with threats. We want the 3.9B. Pay or we freeze your bank accounts.
Imara responded: Guys, but you accepted our objection.
KRA said: Noo. We rejected it and emailed you. Here is the proof. Pay us up ASAP.
Imara looked at it and said: Guys, that is not our email.
Everyone at Times tower got shocked. How did that happen?
KRA said: OK the email was wrong. But tax is yours. Lipa.
As KRA is doing all this, they are unaware of two dangerous sentences in Kenyan tax law.
They read:
• KRA cannot audit past 5 years without proving fraud
• KRA must respond to objections within 60 days
Imara ran to court.
- Argued it cannot pay tax on rejection notices served out of time.
The tax appeal tribunal agreed the rejection letter was communicated to Imara out of time. But still asked Imara to bring fresh evidence to dispute the tax.
Later the Tribunal ruled the evidence was not enough.
• Imara was ordered to pay 3.9B.
KRA retreated to Times Towers celebrating.
Imara ran straight to the high court.
- It argued that it cannot pay tax out of rejection notices served to them out of time.
The judge looked at the case.
Then invoked the 2 dangerous sentences. You remember them?
- No audits beyond 5 years without fraud
- No rejection after 60 days
The judge sided with Imara.
- Imara was ordered to pay nothing.
- And KRA was ordered to pay legal costs to Imara.
Case closed.
Lesson 2.
• Everyone needs an accountant trained kukanyanga wire.
• KRA cannot audit beyond 5 years without proving fraud.
• If KRA misses the 60 days, call the party. You have won.

A 15-pound honey badger can survive a cobra bite that would kill a full-grown man in under two hours. Then it finishes eating the snake. A biology grad student at the University of Minnesota wanted to know how. She needed badger blood to find out, and the only samples she could get were from two American zoos in San Diego and Indiana.
What she found in the DNA was one tiny change. There's a small socket on your muscle cells that your nerves plug into to tell your muscles to move. Cobra venom kills you by jamming that socket shut, so your lungs stop working. The honey badger's socket has a swapped-out amino acid that gives it a positive electrical charge. Cobra venom is also positively charged. Like magnets pointing the wrong way, the venom gets pushed off before it can lock in, and the muscles keep firing.
The same workaround showed up separately in hedgehogs and pigs. Mongooses got there too, with a slightly different molecular trick. Four different animals with no shared ancestor all arrived at the same solution because venomous snakes kept biting them for millions of years.
That only covers snakes like cobras and mambas. Puff adders work differently, destroying tissue instead of paralyzing muscle, and the DNA trick doesn't help there. So when a puff adder lands a solid bite, the badger collapses into a kind of coma for two or three hours. Then it wakes up groggy and eats the snake anyway.
The skin is maybe the unfairest part of all this. It's about a quarter inch thick, rubbery, and so loose it fits like a wetsuit two sizes too big. A lion can clamp its jaws on a honey badger and the badger will twist halfway around inside its own skin and start clawing the lion's face while still in its mouth. Bee stingers barely get through. Porcupine quills don't either.
Which brings us back to the bees in that photo. They're annoying. A few sneak through to the face, and enough stings have killed honey badgers in the wild. Honey badgers still die. But they're running three different defense systems at the same time, and one of them is a genetic lottery ticket evolution has pulled four times.

We regret that the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs misunderstood the intent of the President's remarks—which were an expression of his convictions regarding universal human rights rather than an opinion on any specific issue—and subsequently countered them.
The Government of the Republic of Korea remains steadfast in its opposition to all forms of violence and anti-humanitarian acts, including the acts of terrorism pointed out by Israel.
We have consistently maintained the position that international humanitarian law and human rights must be upheld without exception.
Furthermore, we continue to empathize deeply with the unspeakable suffering endured by Israel due to the Holocaust, and we once again express our profound condolences to the victims of the Holocaust.

God does not bless any conflict. Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples.

The absolute darkest truth about how society views men is that we do not actually value male life; we only value what a man is willing to destroy himself to provide. Think about the male archetypes we actually celebrate. The soldier who doesn't come home. The father who works three grueling jobs until his heart gives out. The athlete who permanently destroys his brain and body for our entertainment. We only applaud masculinity when it is actively bleeding for the benefit of someone else. The exact moment a man decides he wants to step off the treadmill—to prioritize his own peace, his mental health, or his physical safety over his utility to the world—he is instantly branded as lazy, weak, or unambitious. We don’t want men to be whole, healthy, or at peace. We want them to be highly functioning shock absorbers. We demand they build the houses, fight the wars, and fund the lifestyles, and our only reward for this lifelong, crushing expectation is a quiet funeral when the stress finally kills them

what opinion about men do you have that makes people feel like this???
