Don't know if you mean free h2n4 (when it was in beta for a long time) or free basic version of h2n3 that ended maybe a year back. Either way it's because they simply don't need it anymore. It is a well known product now and it is clearly the best on the market, so they want money. Makes sense. But I do feel bad for microstakes players who lost the chance to have free h2n3 for basic use.

Moving from Hand2Note3 to Hand2Note4, advantages and disadvantages. 🟢Stat building is 3-4x faster, startup is faster, switching between databases is almost instant (that could take several minutes with large databases in h2n3). 🔴Databases take 3x more space (could vary based on amount of your stats). Might have to buy new SSD if you are doing large population research. 🟢You can import HHs from more sites, GG doesn’t need converter anymore, more formats work in general, exports from other trackers work better (but not perfect, for example ipoker exported from PT/HM doesn’t work, you need the original format). 🔴Subjectively worse design than h2n3. For example the „Hand view“ was a lot better in h2n3. But step by step it’s getting better with new updates. 🟢Expression stats have some nice extra features if you want to create a lot of complicated stats. Also custom EV winrate stats are possible now. 🔴If you have sample size shown for stats, it also shows next to all your "expression stats" which makes zero sense. Please fix. 🟢Preflop fold stats actually show folded hands for hero instead of calls like h2n3 did for some weird reason. Very useful for coaching. 🔴Some of my stats got destroyed during the convert from h2n3 to h2n4. But very few. 🟢Postflop „raise by pot %“ finally uses the correct formula that every poker site and poker tool is using and not the weird one h2n3 had. 🔴If you have a lot of separate windows in your popups in h2n3, conversion to h2n4 will throw them all over the place and you will spend several hours fixing it (but only once). 🟢Bunch of bugs fixed, for example h2n3 would sometime read 4card straight turn as having a draw with any hand. And other smaller things. 🟢Better work with aliases if you do population research. 🟢More filtering options when importing new hands like exact date from which older hands are ignored, creating stats only for hero to have smaller DB etc. 🔴How come you added so many new features but stats don’t have a simple „is knockout“, „isn’t knockout“ criterion? I need this one! 🟢It’s gonna work in 2027 while h2n3 support will get killed, so you have to move anyway. Both Hand2Note versions are still light years ahead of all the other trackers (and also more expensive).

@tombos21 I basically did this on BWIN before I found poker.😀 First high variance double/triple up on roulette(was possible to wager the bonus only), then lose part of it in a controlled fashion in blackjack/paigow to fulfill the wager requirements.

Gambling puzzle: A casino matches your deposit as a bonus. They require you to wager 30x your deposit before you can withdraw the bonus. Gambler 1 wants to minimize their bust rate. So they play a low-variance game with 97% return to player (RTP). Gambler 2 wants to maximize their variance. So they play an extremely high-variance game with 97% RTP. Curiously, Gambler #2 has a MUCH higher expected value than #1, despite having the same RTP and a higher chance of busting. In fact, if the variance is high enough, gambler #2 can theoretically have a positive expected value, despite playing a losing game! How is this possible?

I don't work so often with total beginners, but might do a youtube video sometimes on that topic. In short I would start by using some free tiers of solid tools. You can use the basic preflop ranges in GTO Wizard for free. Also can look into GTO Base, not as well known but some nice free stuff in terms of preflop ranges and ability to look up some postflop spots. Watch free youtube videos from solid tools like GTO Wizard, GTO Lab... And avoid anyone who talks about MDF on flop.😅
