the kind souls at Nparks have put up this for the Singapore ernesti peregrine pair who are trying to raise their 2nd brood this year after finally succeeding last year when the trays were very helpfully installed by nparks. #peregrine@nparksbuzzyoutube.com/live/pHBUzaKQT…
Peregrine pair near Oxford/regent S. These are the former pair around baker st I'm pretty sure that never were successful unfortunately, without any provision of a tray that no one who did that kind of thing seemed keen to provide, it was always going to be tough... #LondonBirds
@alanrevel a bit strange over the weekend. Twice a peregrine flew from the court spire to guy's hospital which is very unexpected. that area definitely used to be barbican pair territory (who now seem to have shifted further north). There's also, off and on, been one at guy's previously..
Peregrines at New oxford St. The tiercel tried his luck but the falcon was not impressed with the attempted mating and not quite in the mood. She later flew to a crane off Oxford Circus. bit confusing what's happening wrt to the royal court and baker st sites... #LondonBirds
@FaBPeregrines hopefully you were also able to see some of the aerial acrobatics as part of the usual courtship displays the pairs would engage in at this time of the year prior to nesting. some really cool flying can be seen if looking up into the sky with binoculars!
@LdnPeregrines@alanrevel The objective I thought would be to help raise awareness and appreciation of peregrines for all than just a select group who get info doled out to them if/when deemed worthy after all. Without that more general interest being raised, how do people get started in the first place?
@MTurnstall@alanrevel Being ‘in the know’ is becoming increasingly difficult. Happy to discuss sightings/news over email. Not aware of a dead bird on the Strand recently, though there was one found injured in Holborn late Nov. May be the same one?
@LdnPeregrines@alanrevel Given the royal court is a government building with good security, it's not really clear why anything needs to be on email than more openly where hopefully others who have an interest in peregrines might be more aware of their presence to watch and appreciate the birds.
@alanrevel Ah ok, bit difficult to get anything information wise from those who are officially supposed to be 'in the know' as it's only very selectively handed out to others it seems unfortunately.....
@alanrevel It's a bit confusing. There was a peregrine on the court spire afternoon for a long while but also one on the red crane at new Oxford st (pic), and a further one on a crane at Oxford Circus. A month ago there was a pair at Senate house around UCL but seems to have abandoned that
@CanalRegent I wouldn't know I'm afraid, don't believe either were ringed previously fwiw. could be an intruder though - There were some intense intruder interaction a few times in Dec but that mainly took place much further south although intruders do come by quite regularly around now
@MTurnstall I heard from a member of staff at LSE that a dead peregrine had been found on the campus, which is next door to Royal Courts of Justice, do you know if it was one of the pair from the courts?
Peregrine pair now quite regularly at Senate House, WC1. I hope the University of London might consider a nest box perhaps.....if anyone knows of a contact to point that out, might be useful. #LondonBirds
Peregrine pair at New Oxford St having seen off an intruding pair. Tiercel later flew up to Senate House a bit north where the pair have been spending a bit of time.... #LondonBirds
Peregrine pair along oxford street W1 on a building that I've not previously seen a pair despite always thinking it was a likely looking one.... #LondonBirds
@CanalRegent Thank you - very kind. The ULU have just replied that they have contacted their estates team as well and I'll drop her an email too. Hopefully the peregrines will do their bit but having options can't hurt at all!
A pair of peregrines are on senate house around Russell square..... 🤔 I've always thought that looked a good place for a nest box or tray tbh... #LondonBirds
