I see some reports about how Barca, Real, Liverpool and co will go all in for Diomande this summer. I made a bit of a stupid post the other week about how United was guaranteed to get him. But what many do not get is just how — very raw — Yan Diomande is. He fits our project very well with his strong 1 on 1 ability, at his age sliding in behind Cunha as a depth option is perfect. And he is also versatile and can play across the forward line. However — Yan Diomande is more raw than Lenny Yoro was when we signed Yoro. Granted, a CB must be more well polished than a winger — Diomande is definitely not ready to step in and play a big role for a team at the absolute top of European football. To describe it like this — he just took the step in his development latter that lets him start for Leipzig. If he regress some, he is on the bench for Leipzig. Then you see talks about how Liverpool see him as a Salah replacement or how Real wants him. You must have very specific circumstances for it to make sense to sign Diomande this summer for 70m. You get a part time player today. You gamble on his potential to become like not just a good winger for a top 5 side in the PL — but like perhaps top 3-5 in the world. We made that gamble on Yoro. Very few teams are willing to gamble this early with that type of money (perhaps for a good reason). I could of course be wrong, I’ve been wrong before and will be wrong again. Maybe Diomande is ready to star at the big scene within 1-2 years and teams see him as the next Vinnie Jr. The a main reason I made the post about how it was 95% chance that we would get Diomande, is because I don’t think anyone else even remotely is willing to gamble on him at the extreme costs discussed. Perhaps the biggest reason for that post by me being “dumb” is because Diomande could of course easily stay at Leipzig. It’s probably best for him. But from my POV, rumors about top teams like Barca, Real, Liverpool and co besides us being prepared to come in and pay 100m for Diomande — just comes across as complete nonsense. In 2-3 years time — sure. But it’s extremely rare that anyone gambles on a player as raw as Diomande when it’s associated with that type of costs.

This nonsense. What does Mr. Scholes have to say about the Man Utd team that scored 68 goals to a title in the 2008/09 season? It’s the least amount of goals from any champion in almost three decades. Or the fact that they lost home and away to Liverpool who came second that season, which was 50% of their losses. Or the 2010/11 season they only won 5 away games out of 19, yet emerged champions. This lukewarm analysis can be nauseating.
