I was delighted to join students for the presentation on Treaty 9. Toronto Reference Library and @ArchivesOntario offered a rare chance to view an original copy of the James Bay Treaty, dating back to 1905–1906. This Treaty represents the nation-to-nation relationship between the Ojibway (Anishinaabe), Cree (including the Omushkegowuk), and other Indigenous Nations (Algonquin) with the Crown, covering the James Bay and Hudson Bay watersheds in Ontario, about two thirds of the province’s total landmass. Wonderful to see young students learning about Crown-Indigenous Relations. Thank you to Deputy Grand Chief Natasha Martin of the Taykwa Tagamou Nation Mushkegowuk Council for sharing with us the story of her ancestor, who was one of the signatories of Treaty 9. @torontolibrary

Ravie d’avoir participé, avec des élèves, à la présentation du Traité 9. Bibliothèque Toronto et @ArchivesON nous ont offert une rare occasion de voir la version originale du Traité de la Baie-James, datant de 1905-1906. Ce traité représente la relation de nation à nation entre les Ojibway (Anishinaabe), les Cris (incluant les Omushkegowuk) et d’autres nations autochtones (Algonquin) avec la Couronne, couvrant les bassins hydrographiques de la baie James et de la baie d’Hudson en Ontario. Ce territoire représente environ les deux tiers de la masse continentale totale de la province. Merci pour cette opportunité d’apprentissage et un merci particulier à la Grande Cheffe adjointe Natasha Martin, du Conseil Mushkegowuk de la Nation Taykwa Tagamou, d’avoir partagé avec nous l’histoire de son ancêtre, qui était l’un des signataires du Traité 9.
