Oakland Hip Hop History runs deep. Forget Too Short, Hammer, and 2pac, many many artists came up out of the birthplace of the Black Panthers and The Mack. Below some great albums from Oakland which might be lesser known, but great in their own right! Give it up 4 The Town!

1998 was crazy for No Limit after seeing a lot of success in 1997. Having over 20 albums in the same year hitting platinum or gold is simply incredible. One of the most prolific runs in Hip Hop history. In a 3-4 year stretch, they went to work.

I love rap from a-typical places. Here's some heat from Tulsa, Las Vegas, Boston, Montgomery, Lake Charles, Kansas City, San Antonio, Dallas, Columbus, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Baton Rouge, St Louis, Seattle, Portland and Nashville. Can you tie these cities to the right artists??

@checktherhyme1_ @WantAGoodHandle Luniz, definitely yes. Smoke On Records had a reissue of Amerikkka's Nightmare, but it's sold out.. And SOR seems to be completely AWOL anyway (good quality pressings, but was quite unreliable with delivery at times).

Tomorrow marks 81 years since the end of Lapland War between Finland and Germany. Last Germans left their fairly strongly built positions on April 25th, 1945. That evening, Finns observed that there were no German troops in Finnish territory. World War 2 in Finland was over.

@Fritsvandewerel I only got one 12" from RSO. It's an ok track but the production suffers from terrible phase issues :)

@Fritsvandewerel H to check. Mixed up Lethal, with Lethal-T and was completely wrong :) Crooked Path right direction, but neighbouring state :) RSO completely off. Tab & Da Villon correct, but "Mid-West" is not very specific, C Loc right state, but no city. Lost some rap credibility there :D

@Fritsvandewerel Lethal from San Antonio? Next ones are based on hazy memories, but Crooked Path from Portland, Almighty RSO were from Seattle, Tab & Da Villon somewhere from Mid-West, C Loc from south (Lousiana, I think). That's the best I can do :D Quite low confidence on these.

How many street/reality/gangsta rap PIONEERS are there, in your opinion, historically? And who comes to your mind first?

@Fritsvandewerel Then there's of course Black Dynasty, A.M.W., Underground Rebellion (love 50 Knocks 12"), G-Lo, Cydal, Seagram's friend Gangsta P, Tha M.O.B.B.... so much talent, most with only a few releases.
