At a recent talk, a parent asked what their kid should do this summer to make up for a year of academic disruption. My answer? Get outside. Play w/ friends. Hug grandparents. Read for fun. Ride a bike. If we don't let kids recalibrate, they may struggle to re-engage in learning.
As districts return more kids to school buildings, many will do better, but it's not a panacea. Prepare kids for school to look & feel different, tell them they may experience mixed emotions--from happiness to disappointment, fatigue & awkwardness--and normalize asking for help.
A great way get students excited and engaged on a snowy day is to have everyone grab a bowl of snow and write our letters and high frequency words in the snow! ❄️❄️ #AACPSAwesome#KindergartenRocks#snowday
Today @arnoldaacps is celebrating Kindness through Words for Kindness week and we will spotlight Youth Poet Laureate and rockstar, Amanda Gorman! Students will reflect on how they can "be the light" with their courageous and brave words. #AACPSAwesome#projectunity2021
Virtual learning still allows for indoor snowball fights! Practicing reading, writing, and throwing our high frequency words! When the stop sign comes out we pick up one snowball and read it to the class. #AACPSAwesome#KindergartenRocks#snowballfight
I usually leave my students locker love notes telling them why I am thankful for each of them. This year I am doing virtual love notes in email. I am so thankful for each of my students! #AACPSAwesome#Thankful#KindergartenRocks
