@MYBirding

Found birding usually around the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire counties. Also prone to twitching!

@GarryBagnell I missed Great Snipe in my home county watching West Brom! That was the last time I saw them.

Now back at the Airport. Car checked in, baggage opens in 30 mins & I’m sitting in the lounge with a latte. The quality of birds 🇮🇪gets is breathtaking. I ❤️this country. Redhead is one of the 20 birds I mentioned in my book that I missed whilst plane spotting. #Unblocked4Ever

@ChrisGPackham It really does beggars belief that this stuff still happens in 2026, watched some of it live, these folks are less than human and judgement day will come one day, someone will get killed. Obviously big men having to hide their faces @MeganMcCubbin

@james_lidster Sadly they don’t James. I would be interested what BUBO have to say about it. Overall it’s a good website, but allowing listers to tick rejected birds undermines the good work BBRC/BOURC does.

I thought I would take a look Redhead stats on BUBO’s British Life List rankings. It shows, 350 of the 2,532 listers have ticked Redhead. 34 of these listers ✔️the rejected 1 from Kenfig Pool in Glamorgan from 2021 & 1 lister✔️Hyde Park in 2024? Maybe Brits will go 2 ☘️ soon

@01000011S Going over the birder there. There is so much birding around that area, my sister lives near the Blackwater, used to bird the Crouch from time to time.

@GarryBagnell I saw the Notts male, I was never 100% of its credentials, but there was Cedar Waxwing in town too! Suppose folk will have their own agenda for listing. I saw one that was rejected at some pools in Glamorgan too.

@MYBirding Well that’s one we get instantly, it hadn’t been rpt for days apparently so we were pleased it was still there, it took Paul 2 attempts to see the lsr legs previous to my visit and he almost missed it the second time! Took me 3 attempts to see the scoter(s) cuz of weather!

As 2025 closed, I embraced the challenge of seeing as many different bird species as possible, in Norfolk, this January. The variety has been surprising and provided me a huge total of 173 species - quite possibly a new county record? The fitting finale - five fabulous Shags.

Tomorrow 31st January marks the 40th anniversary of the legendary Saltburn Ivory Gull. It stayed until Feb 8th and became one of Cleveland’s most twitched birds ever! I’ve kept these clippings for 40 years in the vain hope I can one day say Ivory Gull Unblocked at…@teesbirds1

Squelched through the mud to Efford Marsh in Plymouth for the Yellow Browed Warbler. Heard it calling first and had a few sightings as it flitted about. Loads of Chiffchaff, including this pale Tristis, feasting on flies. Managed only record shot of YBW. @DevonBirds

@ianbennell75 You know that seems a long time, it will fly! I am pensionable on Nov 26 this year! Somehow I feel it’s a step closer to death! Hopefully that will cheer your Monday up! 😂

@StephMurphy66 @DevonBirds They seem a little common here in the Mids. Couple of years ago struggled to see them at my usual haunts.

Great day in Hampshire with @GBirding My 2nd UK Killdeer was the highlight. The Great-tailed Grackle took his time to show but show well he did. Little Gull, White-tailed Eagle and Great Northern Diver the best of 9 year ticks.

2. Has there been any studies of these birds or ringing recoveries that suggest they are truly wild?

1. What do people make of Barnacle Geese south of their usual wintering grounds! Take the Slimbridge birds feeding on the Dumbles, wild or feral populations? I remember the ringed birds in Staffs from the Svalbard population. So folk just tick em now like feral pigeon on Bubo!
