This week, the 34th Conference on Cattle and Sheep Science is taking place, organized by the Extension Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Israel Dairy Board. Researchers and students from the Volcani Institute are participating and presenting groundbreaking studies in the cattle and sheep sectors. This year's conference includes sessions dedicated to the memory of the 14 individuals from the industry who were murdered on October 7, 2023, and a special memorial room was established in their honor. During the war, many dairy farms in the south and north suffered damage, and the annual conference represents the resilience and unique spirit of those in the industry, working tirelessly towards rehabilitation and continuous improvement of the Israeli dairy farm, a source of national pride. Today, The Volcani Institute held an exposure event for dozens of women scientists at the doctoral or postdoctoral stage. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce them to various research opportunities, the different institutes, and the wide range of research topics in which they could participate while encouraging them to apply for independent researcher positions in the future. During the event, the heads of the research institutes presented their institutes and the ongoing research. Additionally, there was a panel featuring women researchers at different stages of their careers from various institutes, who shared their scientific journeys, and challenges they faced, and engaged in discussions with the young scientists. “We are hosting this event specifically for 'women scientists because diversity is key to innovation. This event is part of our commitment to promoting women in science and ensuring that the future agriculture will include and benefit from women's creativity,” said Dr. Maya Kleiman. @BennyChefetz @MZachut @MayaPifff
