On the other hand, Pakistan’s military has failed in mediating between Iran and the United States, and there are signs that Iran and the U.S. are once again focusing on Oman’s mediation. A resident living near Nur Khan Base writes: Shops have been closed for more than a week. Goods have been spoiled, people have suffered losses, and they are facing serious difficulties. Anyone who tries to open their shop is arrested by the police, taken to jail, beaten, and then released after paying fines of 10,000–20,000 rupees. Even a tandoor worker was arrested just for opening his shop. How are people supposed to endure all this? Along with the closure of shops, sometimes the entry and exit routes of the area are also blocked without any warning. What are we supposed to do to meet our basic needs? Imagine coming home from work and not being allowed to enter your own village or area. Why are we the ones bearing the burden of this conflict?

Pakistani citizens have grown frustrated with the abusive and oppressive behavior of the army and police. Ordinary people say that the army and police treat civilians like criminals. Instead of serving the public, they harass them, throw them into prisons, and kill them ruthlessly.

IMPORTANT UPDATES | 🇵🇰 Brief (a Pakistani website that closely monitors the country’s economic situation): The Government of Pakistan announced this week an “$8 billion lifeline support package” from Saudi Arabia. Before celebrating, it is important to understand what these figures actually represent. Out of the $8 billion, $5 billion is a “rollover,” meaning it is money that was already held in Pakistan’s central bank, and Saudi Arabia has simply agreed to keep it there instead of withdrawing it. The remaining $3 billion is a new deposit in the central bank, but this too is essentially a loan. Meanwhile, Pakistan is due to repay $3.5 billion to the United Arab Emirates this month. If you do the math, the country’s net new liquidity comes to around $2 billion and even that is not investment, but borrowed money. This is not surprising for Pakistanis who have observed such patterns for decades. Governments announce figures that are technically accurate but are deliberately framed to appear transformational. Old debts are combined with new inflows and presented as an increase in reserves. Headlines are generated, political mileage is gained but the underlying financial situation remains largely unchanged. Saudi Arabia’s motives are also worth noting. This support is not just about generosity; it is equally about maintaining its position in the region and preserving influence over a strategic partner. This is not cynicism it is simply how sovereign finance works.

Balochistan Neglected for 78 Years as Economic Crisis Deepens in Pakistan Salman Akram Raja: 78 years have passed since the creation of Pakistan, yet not a single factory has been established in Balochistan to this day. The livelihood of the people there depended on trade with Afghanistan and Iran, which has now also been shut down for them. The current government has no plan to rebuild the public economy and is merely running the system by taking loans of a few dollars from one country or another. Those traders who used to survive by bringing dry fruits and vegetables from Afghanistan are now dying of hunger. In this society, the rich are getting richer while the poor are being crushed underfoot. Imran Khan has repeatedly highlighted this reality that in a country where there is no justice and fairness the poor are oppressed. In the current crisis, despite the existence of old oil reserves, petrol and diesel prices have been increased purely for profit. As a result, in just one week, 19 billion rupees have been taken out of the public’s pockets and transferred into the coffers of oil companies.
