Incase you didn’t know, John Carlson now leads the NHL in all-time shots blocked (2,186), passing Marc-Edouard Vlasic (2,184)

@whydidigetatw @capsboybebop That doesn't mean it should then be used Especially when most are just repackaging the same things in different ways instead of pushing forward with new ideas or ways for analysis

@M_MiracleMan @capsboybebop the issue is there isn’t really an alternative that doesn’t have the same debilitating flaws

i think prospect models are an excellent tool when used appropriately but they have done irreparable damage to the way we discuss players

Will this get the same treatment as Crosby's Golden Goal? Or will it be shoved aside as it is right now. I'd wager it won't be given the same treatment!

I care less about Jack actually getting the puck and more about how odd the whole process was of Hughes and Team USA having no idea but the IIHF and HOF working on their own here.

Canadian Golden Goal gets its own set up and the HOF worked with Crosby to get other items donated and made a huge display USA Golden Goal display gets thrown together with random stuff that no one from either Team USA worked to get put together
Greg Wyshynski@wyshynski

"Unfortunately, in the easiest words, it was never Jack's puck to own." The Hockey Hall of Fame said it will NOT give #NJDevils and Team USA star Jack Hughes the puck from his gold-medal winning goal in the Milan Cortina Olympics. My latest on ESPN: espn.com/nhl/story/_/id…

@gfcapsfan @LukeCerpinTaxt Not sure there are greater examples of "built different" than Schaeffer. Kids a freak. I'm very optimistic on Cole... just some people need to be prepared for what a development curve looks like even for a guy as talented as him. We haven't had many like him lately.

Wise words from Miracle Man here. It's also important that people think he'll be like his brother off the bat. Lane was given top pair, top PP time instantly, Cole will not get that. He'll be bottom pair and maybe 2nd unit time. And that's okay.
MMiracleMan@M_MiracleMan

Caps fans need to have proper expectations of Cole Hutson. Look at the Ryan Leonard trajectory after he joined last season. Hutson has an even more difficult position to learn at the NHL level. He's going to feel "incomplete" for most of next year, and especially this year.

@LukeCerpinTaxt He's going to be a good, maybe great, NHL player. Let him get there on his schedule, not an immediate impact one.

@LukeCerpinTaxt And if he struggles in some ways in that role that's okay! People are excited and that's great, but he's very unlikely to meet expectations for quite some time. And I hope fans don't get disappointed if/when that happens on a timeline they were unfairly putting on him. He's 19!

@sensfan90 @RitchieEmmons From what I've seen but then also read from scouts, I think Cole may be better at some of the defensive aspects but lack in the other areas just a little bit. They're similar but different players and will have different trajectories.

@RitchieEmmons @M_MiracleMan If he is anything like his brother, he will never be great at denying zone entries or along the boards, but will do great in transition and offence. It would be presumably be all about deployment.

@carterbsports I think linking brothers together this way is a fallacy that often leads to improper expectations. They hold lots of similarities but also still lots of differences.

We still don't know who he'll be at this level & development curves are different based on the level of player you are. Enjoy him for who he is and don't project "savior" status onto him - he's still 19!

And here's the thing - that's totally fine! Just don't want people to be overly harsh on him too early. He needs time to learn the position & league. He's going to have weaknesses & flaws. He's an undersized D-Man - a monumental task in the modern NHL to make it as one.

@raeziIla I figure Ilya Protas may get the 3C job or play on the wing while he learns the NHL game. After that it's Cristall & Miro fighting for spots and proving they belong. I'd like to see more of all three up this year for stints.
