EXCITING footage of the new @mndnr Prairie Dunes WIldlife Management Area in Norman County! You’re seeing all the new wetland restorations that took place last fall on this 600+ acre site. We partnered with @pheasants4ever to acquire the site utilizing Outdoor Heritage Funds.

The MPCS family is in mourning as we remember our beloved Earl “The Pearl”. Earl meant so much to so many in the world of grouse and conservation. He will be missed dearly. Rest easy, friend. westkjos.com/obituaries/ear…

Prairie chickens prefer large open grasslands with few trees and…. gas stations?? These pics of a prairie chicken hanging out at the gas station in Audubon, MN were recently shared with us. (Note: the bird appeared alert and mobile, so hopefully just resting in an odd spot)

Most of the birds at the lek are males. Sometimes there are just one or two females in sight. Although mating will occur at the lek, more often than not, breeding occurs away from the lek. As we get later and later into the spring (continued...)

Cool breakdown! "Male Greater Prairie-Chickens use four prominent vocalizations while on the leks: the “boom,” “cackle,” “whine” and “whoop.” The four vocalizations are distinct and serve different purposes."

What does a Greater Prairie-Chicken sound like? It’s not your typical cock-a-doodle-doo! Take a listen in this #LayLanguage paper from the 168th ASA Meeting: ow.ly/HbGP50IeY4r #FlashbackFriday #ASA168
