"Gliwice uczą Szachów" - w Gliwicach wystartował wspaniały projekt edukacyjny! 🔵🔴♟️

There are very few issues in international affairs to which I have a genuinely personal, even emotional, attitude - but German policy on Nord Stream is definitely high on that list, perhaps even at the very top. Much of my professional life as an analyst and expert on international relations has been spent debating German and Russian politicians, diplomats, and experts - and later countering their propaganda about Nord Stream being this “wonderful, European, forward-looking project.” The sheer amount of lies, manipulation, arrogance, and condescension I encountered forced me to rethink many assumptions and to clearly separate rhetoric from actual policy practice. I used to be optimistic about Germany’s role in Europe and about the prospects for Polish-German relations - you can find traces of that optimism in my writings from twenty years ago. But it was precisely the Nord Stream affair that made me replace optimism with realism - and, quite often, with pessimism. Discussions with Russians about Nord Stream never disappointed me as much as those with Germans. The Russians were cynical, but at least consistent. The Germans, on the other hand, usually reacted to my arguments with disdain, superiority, arrogance - and eventually, offense. To accuse them of becoming a tool in Russia’s imperial arsenal? How dare you! To warn them that Nord Stream would import Russian corruption, not just gas? Outrageous! After all, they were the Rechtsstaat - the rule-of-law state - supposedly immune to corruption and uniquely equipped to handle it. Really? It turned out the Russians were far better at corruption than the Germans were at resisting it. In 2006, during a closed-door meeting in Berlin, I asked a senior official from the Auswärtiges Amt whether he wasn’t concerned that cooperation with Russia over Nord Stream would damage Germany’s relations with Poland and Eastern Europe. He replied, “You think so? Well, we can afford to pay that price.” Those words still ring in my ears. That man later became one of the leading figures of German and European diplomacy - a prominent advocate of “dialogue” with Russia. So forgive me if I say that the sight of Germany now “investigating” the sabotage of Nord Stream feels like a mockery of history - another manifestation of German arrogance and hubris. Perhaps they should start by investigating Schröder and Merkel - they were the ones who blew up Europe’s trust in Germany as a reliable ally. A little more humility - and a little less Über alles - would be a good start.

A gdyby tak wybudować sieć prostych urządzeń śledzących nasze niebo w poszukiwaniu obiektów latających? Nauką i edukacją zajmuję się od dawna, bardzo dawna. Od lat obserwuję rosnący trend nauki obywatelskiej (citizen science), która polega na tym, że nie-specjaliści włączają się w badania naukowe, poszukiwania, interpretowanie danych itd. Na zadziwiająco wielu polach mogą oni realnie pomóc naukowcom - profesjonalistom. A przy okazji wiele się nauczyć. A gdyby stworzyć proste urządzenie, które każdy mógłby kupić i zainstalować u siebie na dachu, na balkonie. Urządzenie śledzące to co dzieje się na niebie. Wszystko te urządzenia byłoby wpięte w sieć, z której dane spływałyby do odpowiedniej instytucji (wojska?). Skoro są rozproszone systemy mierzące jakoś powietrza albo takie, które śledzą ruch tego co wchodzi w naszą atmosferę (stworzone przez obserwatorów nieba)... Myślę, że wiele osób taki sprzęt by kupiło. Nie chodzi o profesjonalne, drogie urządzenie. Chodzi o coś niemal amatorskiego. Coś czego siłą nie będzie wysoka specjalizacja i jakoś konkretnego "czujnika" tylko ogromna liczba punktów "śledzących" pokrywających dużą powierzchnię. Może @MON_GOV_PL albo @MNiSW_GOV__PL albo @CYFRA_GOV_PL albo @NCBR_pl mogłyby taki konkurs ogłosić?

Bardzo dobry przykład dobrej komunikacji strategicznej. Kilka uwag, dla tych, którzy nie wiedzą, co to jest - czyli zapewne dla większości zwykłych obywateli: 1) To nie jest wykład akademicki lecz przekaz polityczny emitowany w czasie gdy Prezydent Trump spotyka się z Putinem na Alasce w sprawie zakończenia wojny rosyjsko-ukraińskiej wywołanej przez Rosję. Prezydent Trump powoływał się ostatnio na wypowiedź premiera Węgier Viktora Orbana, który przekonywał go, że Rosji nie da się pokonać więc trzeba Ukrainę poddać. Prezydent Nawrocki zręcznie podejmuje polemikę z tą tezą, wprowadzając wątek sojuszu polsko-ukraińskiego, którego żołnierze pobili Rosję w 1920 r. - całkowicie zgodny z prawdą historyczną - w samej Bitwie warszawskiej siły ukraińskie osłaniały południowy odcinek frontu, wraz z polską 6. Armią. Na Bitwę trzeba też patrzeć szerzej jako fragment wojny o niepodległość Polski, której elementem była próba stworzenia niepodległego państwa ukraińskiego, osłabiającego potencjał Rosji i odgradzającego od niej Polskę. 2. Polska musi dążyć do tego, aby w rozmowie o Rosji i Ukrainie uczestniczyć - bo w polityce nie wystarczy mieć rację, trzeba mieć także instrumenty, aby z niej zrobić użytek. I Prezydent Nawrocki zręcznie zbudował sobie instrument - użył tych samych argumentów w ostatniej rozmowie z Trumpem, a poprzez dzisiejszy wpis na X upublicznia polską argumentację - świetne wykorzystanie rocznicy historycznej dla uzasadnienia zabrania głosu w ważnej dla bezpieczeństwa Polski sprawie. 3. Rosjanie zawsze próbują przedstawić polskie doświadczenie z Rosją - do którego także nawiązywał dzisiaj w przemówieniu Prezydent Nawrocki - jako motywowane rusofobią. Wpis Prezydenta wprowadza argument - że nasza świadomość zagrożenia ze strony rosyjskiego imperializmu, nie ma irracjonalnego podłoża, nie jest fobią (nawiązuję do świetnego argumentu ministra Sikorskiego użytego na posiedzeniu RB ONZ w ubiegłym roku), ale wynika z doświadczenia czym jest rosyjski imperializm i świadomości przed czym broni się dziś Ukraina. Dlatego prezydent Nawrocki w ten sposób argumentuje, że trzeba jej udzielić wsparcia. Polacy w 1920 roku marzyli o tym aby Ukraina stawiła Rosji upór. Udało się dopiero po 100 latach, dzięki czemu Polska jest dziś bezpieczniejsza.

Anna Smoleńska joined the anti-German resistance during WW2. She designed the Kotwica (Anchor), the emblem of the Polish Underground State and Home Army. Arrested in 1942, she was deported to the German KL Auschwitz, where she perished #OTD in 1943.

Russia is the one starting wars. Neither Poland, Finland in the past, nor Ukraine have attacked Russia—it’s Russia that repeatedly invades its neighbors while permanently threatening nuclear escalation if it fails to win conventionally. That’s why every country in the region seeks a credible retaliatory capability. The U.S. can provide it, but if it struggles to clearly define who is the aggressor and who is the victim, then it’s failing in its role as a security provider. And when deterrence is lacking, it must be compensated for.
