As we near the end of 2022, #CMOs are starting to plan their marketing strategy for 2023. Strategy planning can be a daunting and painful process, as CMOs battle their company over budgets. But it doesn’t have to be like that.

Day #3 - Second Set of Thoughts on Unfolding Situation in Israel. First, Noni, the son of my former entrepreneur and the former Minister of Science and Technology Izhar Shay, was killed late last night. Our hearts are broken for Izhar and his family and for other families that have been destroyed by barbaric Hamas murderers, rapists and kidnappers. May his and others’ memories be a blessing and give us strength to keep fighting for life, for liberty and for a safe homeland. In their death, these brave young people have commanded us to steadfastly pursue life. In yesterday's post, I wrote "Israel is the most resilient and strongest civil society in the world. This is what gives life meaning. It tells you who Israel is. People committed to each other. We are our brothers' keeper.” Today I want to tell you about Israel's civic society. For much of the last two days many people have been coordinating between massive civilian efforts and government. Hundreds of former soldiers ("Brothers in Arms") brought their jeeps and weapons to the South of Israel, coordinating over whatsapp groups and command centers they set up in the South of Israel, have bravely saved tens if not hundreds of families who were under fire by Hamas terrorists in the communities and Kibbutzes in a ten kilometer radius outside of Gaza. Some of my entrepreneurs opened a forward command center to coordinate locating the people who were trapped, made sure the army said it was safe enough to enter and coordinated with brave jeep owners who went to rescue the families. One of our entrepreneurs has worked around the clock since early Saturday morning on his phone and laptop and literally saved tens of lives by identifying people trapped in their homes or left bleeding in fields, coordinating efforts to rescue them. Another built an app to enable civilians to reporting and confirm incidents and local needs. You cannot find a flight back to Israel in the last two days because those Israelis who serve in reserve duty are rushing to get back. Ordinary people, reservists, are leaving their jobs, rushing to get back and fight for freedom. Fight for life. Fight for good. People have rented private planes from London and elsewhere to fly reservists back since most foreign airlines have cancelled all flights. As Tal Heinrich wrote, that is what happens “when duty calls” and there is no population that duty calls to more than Israelis and particularly former Israeli soldiers. Tonight I went to visit one of my sons who is now at an army base waiting for instructions. When I arrived I could not believe my eyes: for as far as my eyes could see and more, there were cars parked on both sides of the road and on both sides of the center divide. When I asked my son whose cars they were, I learned it was reservists who had been called up, parked their cars on the road on Saturday and arrived at the base. We drove the length of the parked cars: It extended for four kilometers. The scene outside the base was wild. It was 1045PM. There were restauranteurs who pitched tents, to serve food they brought for soldiers. It felt like every mother and sister in the country was walking in with cooked food. Endless numbers of of people walked around with aluminum tins filled with food. There were young girls in long skirts walking around handing out extra pairs of socks, towels, toiletries, Red Bull and other military supplies that they brought for our soldiers. As we prepared to leave, a flatbed truck pulled up with a massive amount more supplies (Picture below). These were all civilian volunteer efforts. Most of it organized over whatsapps and on Google forms and Sheets. See the videos in the tweets below from Beer Sheba where Roni Flamer and Lev Echad (One Heart) volunteers are working through the night to get supplies for civilians affected by the barbarism and first responders in the cities and towns. Civilians bought ceramic vests for soldiers and first responders, headlamps, knee pads, drones and endless supplies of clothing, food, toiletries, bedding and more to those who have been chased from their homes and living in temporary shelter or other people’s homes. My 17 year old nephew is running a WhatsApp group of 1000 high school kids collecting food and toys for the families who have been forced from their homes. My son and son in law drove 6 hours today to pick up and deliver supplies to soldiers and first responders. My younger daughters and their friends joined WhatsApp groups for babysitters because so many men have been called up, school has been cancelled and mothers need help with kids. There are groups of doctors and nurses, people with jeeps and drones, software engineers that are building tools to report issues and verify information to reduce the fog of war, hell and uncertainty that many families are living through now since their loved ones are unaccounted for. Yesterday, the Shomer Hachadash received a request for people who know how to milk cows since those that run the barns have been called up. Teenagers are volunteering to milk cows over the coming days around the country because we need to keep the shelves stocked. This tells a larger story, one I have written about in some of my books. Governments have 20th century operating systems. Citizens have 21st century operating systems. Governments run at the rate of the pony express and maybe Windows 95. Civilians and business today run agile and much much faster. Civic self organization is power and prosperity. It is also Joie de Vivre. Governments inability to address many of our challenges is because their OS is outdated. However, in many countries, civilian society is apathetic. Not in Israel. We are a mobilized and vibrant civic society. If you followed the Judicial reform process and protests, you saw it (on both sides) in spades and now it is on full display at war time. Ministers and Ministries, Secretaries and government offices are struggling globally. Winning 21st century countries will be defined by civic involvement, civilian populations mobilized for good, motivated to create a better society, triggered to empower their fellow through fast advancing technology and human empathy. Civilian armies that bring people together to fight shoulder to shoulder to protect the ideals and people that are dear to us are critical for esprit de corps, for binding society and inspiring calls to action. It can be very messy but it is meaningful and more impactful. It is a significant and meaningful change. This means that much activity traditionally the purview of government will become more distributed. Centralization is crumbling in many ways. Agility and motivated civilians are winning. Those societies with motivated and activist populations, those that value life and are willing to sacrifice for it, will win over the next decades. Those societies with a will to live, to contribute, to build a better future for children and grandchildren will do whatever it takes. Israel has those essential components and we are motivated. With God's help, a motivated inspiring population and an incredibly strong and resilient civil society, we will win and beat back the barbarians at our gates and in some of your streets and then we will get back to building a better 21st century society.

זה לא עוד טקסט על "המצב", אלא למה הרצל הבין הכי טוב איך נכון לעבוד ליברלים לצד חרדים בקרן ההון סיכון שלנו, יש לי שותף מדהים. קוראים לו אדן שוחט והוא ואני מגיעים מרקעים שונים וזה אפילו באנדרסטייטמנט. הוא קיבוצניק. אני גדלתי במנהטן. הוא אתיאיסט. אני אדם מאמין. הוא טכנולוג. אני כתבתי את שורת הקוד האחרונה שלי בכיתה ח. אנחנו מתבדחים שכשצריך סמול טוק או דיבור על ספורט עם משקיעים, רק אני מדבר. אפשר להמשיך. אבל זה לא רק הרקע, גם היום אנחנו עדיין שונים בחלק ניכר מתפיסות העולם שלנו. הרבה עמל ועבודה משותפת, שאיפות ויעדים משותפים הפכו אותנו להרבה מעבר לשותפים. מפאת השחיקה במושג לאחרונה, אני מתלבט אם לכתוב אחים. אבל זה לגמרי שם. כשקמה הציונות לפני כ125 שנה, תיאודור הרצל וקבוצה קטנה של בעלי חזון, רטוריקה, מעוף ויכולת התקבצה בבאזל, וביחד הם יסדו את מדינת היהודים. הם נטלו על כתפיהם עול בחדווה. ששו אלי קרב בדרך חתחתים, קוצים, צארים וממשלות כוזבות. בשלב ההוא שוויון בנטל לא היה בתודעה. אחר כך, ממשיכי דרכם הגיעו לארץ ועשו. קבוצות קטנות, חרוצות, כשלצידן חיו אוכלוסיות חרדיות של היישוב הישן. גם אז, חרדים (שהיו קיימים רק כמה עשורים אז) לא הצטרפו למסע הציוני ואף, לפעמים, לעגו לו. ככה זה בחברות שמרנית. הרצל (אגב, גם בן גוריון) שלא ממש היה בצד הדתי של המפה לא כעס, לא ציקצק והכי חשוב - לא מידר. הוא פשוט עשה. בנה תכניות, התרוצץ, כתב והשפיע. לימים, ובניגוד לתחזיות הצטרפו אליו חלק מיוצאי עולם הישיבות, מי מרצון ומי מכורח המציאות האנטישמית. יש דברים שאי אפשר לצפות אותם אבל חובה ליצור תנאים מכילים ומקבלים. שותפויות עשויות להפתיע. אז איך בכל זאת זה קרה? כי הרצל דיבר לכולם למרות שלא היה מכנה משותף דתי. הוא הבין דבר חשוב בעבודה עם אנשים: שלילת הלגיטימיות של האחר לא תביא איתה תוצאות. שאפשר להתקדם איתם כשאתה לוקח אחריות אזרחית. הרצל הבין שאנחנו עם קטן וכל עתודה של יהודים - אפילו מעצם הקיום שלהם - היא עתודה כלכלית וביטחונית. נזכיר שבהתחלה חשב שהפתרון "לבעיה היהודית" כהגדרתו (!) הוא היטמעות מוחלטת בחברה הכללית כולל התנצרות ונישואים של יהודים וגויים, ורק שנים אחרי פנה לפתרון הבית הלאומי. הרצל שחווה אנטישמיות הבין שבהאשמות, קריאת שמות גנאי ועוד, רק מרחיקים אנשים ומכניסים אותם למגננה. הוא הבין שאנשים רוצים לעבוד עם אנשים עם מעוף ומתכווצים לנוכח השמצות. העובדה שהמחאה עברה מטרמינולוגיה משפטית אל ז'רגון של "משרתים ומשלמים" ומאבק בשוויון לא אמורה להפתיע אף אחד שעיניו בראשו. בית המשפט העליון הוא מגן מיעוטים ובשנים האחרונות, בגלל חשש דמוגרפי, הציבור הליברלי עובר לתודעת מיעוט. מכאן נובע הפחד להצרת המגרש שעליו בית המשפט פועל. כל מה שקורה בתקציב המסתמן רק מחזק את הנרטיב הליברלי שרואה את פירות העבודה שלו הולכים לאיזורים במרחבים הישראלים, שלתפיסתו, לא שותפים מלאים למאמץ שהוא נוטל. אי אפשר להיות אדם הגון ולא להבין חשש זה. לצערנו הממשלות לאורך הדורות לא בדיוק תרמו להכשרת אנשים ונשים למאה ה21. במקום אומץ, הכל עקום. פלסתר על פלסתר. רצפת החדרים מלאה בתוכניות ממשלתיות ומיליארדרים מכספי משלם המסים הוזרמו להכשרות שכשלו אחת אחרי השניה. חוסר ידע בניהול, דגש על תשומות ולא תוצאות. המציאות בשטח היא שלפוליטיקאים מכל גווני הקשת נוח "לעשות עסקים" עם הפוליטיקאים החרדים ועם עסקני חצרות הרבנים כי גם רוב הפוליטקיאים הלא חרדים משאר המפלגות הם פוליטקאים. זה כך כבר מהמאה השניה לספירה, כפי שפירש הרמב"ם על המשנה (תרומות ב, ה): "פוליטיקין - והם בני אדם המעונגים והמפונקים בעלי העושר המרווחים במזונותם". הכל נכון ומתסכל, אבל עם תסכול לא בונים שום דבר. אז מה בכל זאת צריך להניע את מערכת היחסים שבין הציבור הליברלי בישראל לזה החרדי? קודם כל העובדה שהחרדים הם אוכלוסייה צומחת ובדי אן איי שלה גם חרוצה, חכמה ואכפתית. אוכלוסייה שלוקחת אחריות בחסד, בצדקה וגם בהצלת נפשות ומיזמים חברתיים. מעלים לכותרות חד פעמי ומשקאות ממותקים אבל בהרבה תחומים זאת אוכלוסיה שרק מועילה לחסכון הלאומי. כולנו מסכימים שחייבים להקצות מיליארדים למיגור הפשיעה בחברה הערבית. שמתם לב שכמעט ואין פשיעה אלימה בחברה החרדית? זה חיסכון אדיר למדינה. אגב, בבתי הספר הממלכתיים האלימות עולה ויש לזה עלות. פשוט לא רואים אותה בתוך התקציב של הגוף הכי לא יעיל במדינה - משרד החינוך. אצל החרדים כמעט ואין. החרדים מטפלים בזקניהם באופן מופתי, לרוב בחיק המשפחה. זה מחזיק את המבוגרים בריאים יותר. המשימה שהם נוטלים על עצמם היא משפחתית וקהילתית ונופלת פחות על מערכות הבריאות והסיעוד הממשלתיות. והיא חסכונית למדינה. חרדים מתאגדים להוריד את יוקר המחיה. התקשורת תאשים אותם ואת שופרסל ומי לא. אבל אני מצדיע להם. ולאוכלוסייה הכללית יש הרבה מאוד מה ללמוד מהם. הם גם "ירוקים" יותר מכל קבוצת אוכלוסיה אחרת בישראל. בגדים עוברים מיד ליד, שימוש מוגבר בתחבורה ציבורית ולא ברכבים פרטיים, טסים הרבה הרבה פחות מאיתנו ונופשים ומכניסים מאות מיליוני שקלים לתעשיית התיירות הישראלית. מה שציינתי פה זה במצטבר מליארדים של חסכונות למדינה. קל וטבעי ללכת אל הכספים הקואליציוניים ואל התשלומים החדשים אבל אסור להתעלם מהנתונים הללו. בנוסף ראו את התקדמות הנשים החרדיות המשתלבות בשוק העבודה. יש לא מעט משפחות במגזרים השונים שרק אחד מבני הזוג עובד. זה שהאשה היא המפרנסת העיקרית בהרבה בתים חרדים זה לא עניין של אף אחד. זה החלטה אסטרטגית של הזוג. זה כן נכון שלא צריך לקבל על זה קצבה לדעתי אבל אם האשה או הבעל עובד זאת החלטה זוגית. והבנות החרדיות מתקדמות היום מהר יותר ומצליחות יותר במבחני כניסה מכל חלק אחר באוכלוסייה. האם יש רופאות? עוד לא. האם יהיו? בטח. ככל שלא מכבדים את אורח חייהם, ככל שלא מכבדים בשפה ובתרבות את התורה במדינה היהודית היחידה בעולם, ככל שמתייחסים עליהם בדיון כטפילים (אני עדיין נחרד מרמטכ"ל לשעבר במדינה יהודית שהוציא מילים כאלו מהפה שלו) או עול, או כל מילת גנאי אחרת, לא רק מרחיקים את עתודה כלכלית אלא גם חוטאים לחזון הציוני. אסור לדחוף אותם אחורה חזרה אל ציפוף השורות והגטאות. זה לא נכון לתפיסתכם. אתמול כתבתי שאין טעם ולא רצוי להכניס לימודי ליבה לחיידרים. זה לא בגלל שאני חושב שאפשר להסתדר בלי השכלה היום. פשוט הפתרון לא יוכל להגיע בכפיה אלא בחשיבה מחוץ לקופסה: האם יש מקום או דרך אחרת בו חרדים יכולים לרכוש השכלה בגילאים צעירים יותר? האם כדאי שנתחיל עם שיטות חינוך מחוץ למסגרת? אגב, אוהבים להביא את הקהילות החרדיות בניו יורק כדוגמא לשילוב של לימוד ועבודה וזה נכון ובהחלט מעורר מחשבה. אבל למען ההגינות צריך להגיד שגם חלק מהילדים שלהם לא לומדים לימודי ליבה ובכל זאת כשהם בוגרים הם עובדים ומפרנסים יפה מאוד. כנראה שהם כן לומדים. רק לא בחיידר. בשביל להצליח צריך להכיר. זו משימה שדורשת עבודה ברגליים. והמשפט הבא הוא עצוב אבל הכרחי להגיד אותו - איך אני יודע שהממשלה לא תשנה כלום? במחקר שהעלתה נגידת בנק ישראל לשעבר קרנית פלוג, לפני יותר מ15 שנה, היא הראתה שהקיצוץ בקיצבאות ילדים אומנם חסך כלכלית אבל לא הוריד באופן משמעותי את הילודה החרדית. כי זה אתוס. מחוסר ברירה, ואפילו בגלל הדרה, לימוד התורה היום הפך כיום לאתוס הכמעט בלעדי של החברה החרדית. צעקות וחרמות וגם עוד 700 שח לחודש לא משנים אתוס של קהילה עם שורשים עמוקים כל כך. אז איך אנחנו האזרחים עוקפים את הקשיים שהפוליטיקאים מערימים עלינו? איך לוקחים לידיים שלנו את העשייה האפקטיבית כדי לפתור בעיות מהסוג הזה? הגיע הזמן להתייחס לחרדים כעתודה. עתודה כלכלית ועתודה ציונית. הדרך לשם עוברת בהשקעת שעות בשיחות והעברת שיעורים באנגלית, מתמטיקה ותכנות מתוך אהבה וריספקט. זה ציונות! החברה הסגורה הזו לאט לאט נפתחת. גידופים וחרמות וצקצוקים סוגרים אותה. ואני מבין את החרדים. לעומת זאת, חיבורים יוצרים עתיד אחר. כבוד הדדי לאורח חיים אחר הוא יסוד ליברלי מובהק . שכנוע לבבי ואיטי עושה נשמות במיוחד בשדה הכלכלי אבל לא רק. חזון ומעשים בשטח מחוללים שינוי. באירגון השומר החדש שאני היו"ר שלו (גילוי נאות) אלפים רבים של חרדים באים היום להתנדבות חקלאית. רוצים להיות חלק. בונים חזון מתוך כבוד ושותפות… ומצטרפים. החלום שלי ואני הולך לעבוד בזה "ביום שאחרי" הוא שאת היצירתיות וההתגייסות המטורפות שהתגלו במחאה בקפלן ניקח - לפחות בגזרת ההייטק - לחיבורים חדשים בחברה הישראלית. לא פוליטיקה או קואליציה. חיבורים אזרחיים. קורסים בציור ועיצוב. עיצוב גרפי ממוחשב. פרודקט 🙂. וזה יקרה תוך התייחסות לחרדים בכבוד. יש לחברה החרדית שפה קצת אחרת. ערכים אחרים. קהילתיות חזקה. כציבור אינטליגנטי ועם עבודה נכונה הם יכולים בהחלט להשתלב (מתוך כבוד) גם עם הערכים של ציבור אחר. מי שרוצה לבנות משהו טוב יותר חייב ללכת בדרך של הרצל. פשוט לעשות. ואחרי המעשים ימשכו גם הלבבות. זאת הדרך שבה היהדות החילונית והדתית הביאה את התוצאות הכי טובות בהיסטוריה שלה. זאת הדרך שהביאה את אדן ואותי להיות מה שאנחנו עכשיו.

Despite what you see here on Twitter and all the hype, GPT-5 is not being trained right now, nor will it be for some time. GPT-4 took 6 months post training to ensure a safe and aligned model. This is likely to increase for future models. TLDR; focus on GPT-4!
