@__MatthewQuinn Much appreciated Matthew. We didn’t agree on much but we still worked together. That’s exactly what’s been missing. Youth democracy should be about open debate, not shutting down views.

Connor and I agreed on virtually nothing in our time in the Scottish and UK Youth Parliaments. Despite this, we still worked well together for the benefit of the young people who elected us. The Scottish Youth Parliament’s fate as a crumbling institution was entirely avoidable.

I’ve resigned from both the Scottish Youth Parliament and the UK Youth Parliament. Youth democracy should be about open debate and representing all views. In my experience, that hasn’t always been the case. Full statement below.

I am both angry and concerned to learn that an official letter (now confirmed as genuine) issued by the head teacher of a primary school in East Renfrewshire has suggested the use of the Union Flag amounts to "sectarian messaging". Let me be clear - to equate the Union Flag with sectarianism is totally unacceptable and deeply offensive to people both locally and across Scotland. Having spoken with a senior official at @EastRenCouncil this morning, I expect an urgent response, resolution and retraction. As a start, the council must issue an unconditional apology. Our national flag is not up for debate - it is a symbol of our tradition, unity as a nation and hope for so many.
