This trend of judging engineers by their GitHub contribution graph must die. If you want quantity, just hire AI. If you want quality, look deeper. One of our Seniors has only merged 2 PRs this month, as he must master & rewrite a very critical dependency, and I wouldn't merge "mere" 2x improvements. (He just reported 2.7x yesterday, so we'll start breaking down and incremental-merging next week!) The Senior's GitHub graph wouldn't look like a graveyard if GitHub also counted commits to experimental branches. Even then, these are all counted as 1 contribution: - Creating a smol issue - Leaving a nit review on a PR - Fixing a typo - Shipping a new feature - Fixing a crash or a latency leak - Making a hot path 3x faster Counting them equally is as naive as thinking your wife'll give you more allowance if you do more housework. Hint: she won't.
