Let's say that Zach Cregger's Resident Evil did directly adapt one of the games and was as slavishly faithful as humanly possible... the fans would still find a way to complain. They don't actually like these games or characters, they just like pointing at things they recognize.

2026 will go down as an all time year for horror

an RE movie should never be a straight adaptation of a game. it should be its own unique in-universe side story. that's what made the first movie "pretty okay". game scripts DO NOT translate into film scripts well, at all. so Zach Cregger's version is on the right track.
