✨ I quietly redesigned the Cakedesk website over the past couple of months, mostly at night and on weekends. It started on a late Friday evening in November and somehow turned into a full refresh. Here’s a quick look at some of the details 👇

@GregorySchier I agree. The cursor movement smoothing is also irritating when underlying UI elements react to the original hover instead of the smoothed out positions

Hot take: The zoom/pan recordings (popularized by Screen Studio) need to stop. Just record a smaller window/crop.

@Mackseraner thanks Max! I assume you'd prefer to see the project names rather than just icons, right?

Trying out a different layout... better/worse? I think the left sidebar reduced to just icons is better for overall usability. It frees up space for other panels, and switching between projects won't be that frequent.

Got the initial design for the new @LocalCanApp 3.0, reshuffled a few things, and simplified it. Curious, what's your first impression?

The “butthurt fork” is such a funny artifact in the open source ecosystem, especially when announced with lots of fanfare about how the original project did something very naughty and now “the community” will continue in the right direction instead. Check back a month later, zero development. Maybe if you’re lucky they have a new logo and keep rebasing the branding changes on the original project.

@jarekceborski @LocalCanApp Looks really great! feels a lot more organized, modern and intuitive than the current layout. "Projects" is also a nicer way of organizing than "Domains" 👌 well done!

@illyism Never heard of Crowdreply, sounds very interesting. Is there any risk of getting your brand banned globally on Reddit using a service like this?

@Mackseraner I believe for Europe you are obliged to offer individual opt-out. Getting sent to a page that only informs but doesn't give you options feels unexpected.

Experimenting with paid ads but the previous cookie banner was so unobtrusive that users could easily ignore (= non-consent) it This makes it really hard to gather enough data to optimize the ads, so I'm trying out a modal instead Previous banner:

This is so cool: cross-platform OS-level cron jobs, we need that in Node.js too 🤓

I want to share what I have been working on recently: sendmyvoice.com This is not a regular voice notes app, but something that allows users to automate their notes and land them in spreadsheets, email or Notion.

Excited to share that after 5 awesome years working on Playwright, I’ve moved from Berlin to San Francisco to join Amazon AGI Lab, working on browser use and AI Agents. I’m extremely grateful to the Playwright team and community for all the support over the last few years!

TIL if I want to distribute @LocalCanApp on Windows, I need to buy an EV certificate for $1,104.00/yr (DigiCert) 😳 That's not cheap! For macOS, I only need $99/yr to enroll in the Apple Developer Program.

@jarekceborski @LocalCanApp @cakedeskapp Hi Jarek, I implemented code signing on Windows now via Azure Trusted Signing -- it's $9.99 / month, so much cheaper than those $1k/year certificates. If you haven't found a solution on your end, might be worth a look!

merges the commits from the PR into a local build, yes. if there's a conflict it skips that PR and comments on the PR saying it can't merge and to fix conflicts if you want it in beta wouldn't work if lots of PRs are changing the same file but generally for us they are isolated/up-to-date enough

very cool idea opencode does that I haven't really seen before: beta version is auto built from latest dev branch AND includes all PRs with the `beta` label so you don't need to merge anything to get some real testing for it, you just apply the `beta` label
