@Clive_Bates @MarcusMunafo @BristolUni @HiddenRef Yes, we acknowledge this. Smokers may not be motivated to try unflavoured products and initiate use, and flavours may play a role in adherence to e-cigarette use for smoking reduction and cessation. Further areas to test.

Substantively, the question is whether flavours change the number of people willing to give it a serious try (a quantity that is lost in randomisation) and to stick with it (a quantity lost in a trial with free products and incentives to participate).

@CDVQ4 @Jasmine_Khouja @TinaBrink12 @MarcusMunafo @BristolTARG @AngelaAttwood Our findings didn't support our hypothesis (flavours might have disrupted conditioned associations between smoking cues (e.g., tobacco smell/taste) and the rewarding properties of nicotine, for example by creating new flavour associations). First study only, more work needed.

The only thing I'm highlighting here is that the original tweet seemed to imply that flavours reducing cravings is somehow a commonplace assertion or claim. Otherwise, why would one be surprised?
