@Fully_Equipped @MadeForTheRange They priced themselves out of business. Give 1 reason you would buy a prototype set of irons for nearly twice as much as a titleist or taylormade set? No one with a brain would do that. $165 head covers and $100 plain as can be hats? They won't be around long.

Cool story here from the Cadillac Championship where Tommy Fleetwood has dropped his 56˚ wedge this week (going 52-60) and has added a TaylorMade P770 4-iron in between his 9-wood and 5-iron.
According to TaylorMade's Adrian Rietveld, Fleetwood did this to combat the super long par-3s at Doral this week. The first three measure 227, 216 and 236 on the scorecard.
His P7TW 5-iron carries 220 while his 9-wood carries 240, so the goal was to find something to fit that 230 carry window. They tested both this weak 4-iron (24˚) and a stronger P770 5-iron.
Rietveld said both clubs have their advantages for roll out and different distances, but ultimately they went with the weak 4-iron, which he said might also get use on layups for the par-5s this week, which all measure 570 or longer and two are over 600.
Great example of building clubs specifically for the course you have in front of you.

@DaveGolfVisuals McLaren is not using any other OEMs facilities. full stop.
English

@DaveGolfVisuals Nope. Miura and McLaren share zero pathways in production.
English

@MadeForTheRange Are the clubs manufactured in the same plant as his Miura were?
No one knows. Certainly McLaren is made in Japan too.
English

@bjbumgarner There’s a private conforming list for clubs considered prototypes. Happens every week.
English

@MadeForTheRange The clubs aren’t on the USGA conforming list; he isn’t going to play them this weekend.
English

@MadeForTheRange Oh come on Jake 😂! I love Justin too but that’s naive in the extreme
English

@Stanger37 I think it was issues that we will never know as the public. The clubs certainly weren't the problem
English

@MadeForTheRange not going to act like I know what happened with Homna, but didn’t he win his first or second start with them? More of a woods issue than iron issue?
