This month, we have been celebrating the women who are shaping African tech. Akinyi Wavinya Ooko-Ombaka, Head of Portfolio Success at @MadicaVC, is very much on that list. Akinyi's work sits at a powerful intersection: deploying investment capital and providing hands-on mentorship to underrepresented and underfunded mission-driven founders across the continent. Beyond Madica, she has spent the last five years championing dignified work and opportunities for African youth, from career-launch programmes to upskilling initiatives and social protection options for gig workers. What stands out about Akinyi is her genuine investment in the founders she works with. She is hands-on, generous with her time, and deeply committed to helping people reach their full potential. That kind of dedication shows up in everything she does. Her commitment to founders and the ecosystem does not go unnoticed. We are glad to work alongside her. #IWD2026 #WomenInVC #WomenInLeadership #AfricanTech #IWD

Founders often think fundraising is about presenting a perfect picture. Investors are actually looking for clear thinking, evidence of learning and some momentum. They want to understand how you think, how you learn, and what progress looks like when resources are limited.

We’ve spent months listening. To investors. To ecosystem builders. To real conversations about what happens at pre-seed. Not theory. Not borrowed playbooks. Just honest perspectives on fundraising realities. Something built for African founders is almost here. March 31.

The programs, the accelerators, the panels — they are what the ecosystem offers when it is not yet ready to write the cheque. We went to our female founders this IWM. No performed optimism. Just the truth on what constitutes real support. Read here: madica.vc/blog/what-supp…

We asked our female founders what real support for women in tech looks like. They didn’t hold back. In their words 👇🏾

Capital at pre-seed accelerates momentum. It doesn't manufacture it. Before you pitch, ask yourself: → What have I proven? → What does money actually unlock? → Am I moving forward or still finding direction? Investors can see the difference. So can you.

Not every startup should raise venture capital. It’s for businesses that can grow fast, scale quickly, and deliver outsized returns. For some, VC builds momentum. For others, it creates undue pressure. The real question isn’t “Can I raise?” It’s “Should I?”

Building in Africa isn’t linear. It demands speed, adaptability, and resilience. We’re at #RiseUpSummit Cairo (5–7 Feb) with our Head of Portfolio Success, Akinyi, sharing how Madica supports founders beyond capital. Early-stage founders — come find us.

At pre-seed, belief can be built before traction shows up. What investors respond to early on is often simpler than founders expect and harder to fake. We’re unpacking more of these signals soon, alongside a full suite of resources for early-stage founders. Stay tuned.

In a VC Unlocked spotlight, Emmanuel Adegboye shares how that experience continues to shape how Madica is built. As our first investments grow, the focus is clear: supporting founders early with the right mix of capital, patience, and real support, designed for African markets.

Capital is only part of the job. The harder work is staying patient when timelines stretch, markets cool, and progress looks uneven from the outside. That is the commitment we are carrying into this year as we back bold founders across Africa.

Great founders exist everywhere. Opportunity doesn’t. Madica exists to remove the systemic barriers facing underrepresented African founders—through early capital, hands-on support, and founder-first tools. Listen to how we support founders here: youtu.be/vWLpcudhY-Y
