@Romy_Holland It looks like they may be difficult to find now, but I bought this one in 2024 and used it when we traveled since my daughter slept in a bassinet for the first ~6 months: a.co/d/04pbMgxb It will definitely fit in a suitcase!

I have been driven mad trying to find a suitable travel crib for my baby. the one everyone says to get is still the size of a backpack. this is not that small. I want something that easily fits in a suitcase. I was confused about why tf this doesn't exist and it turns out the answer is, of course, the government. the consumer product safety commission keeps making the regulations on cribs more and more stringent, effectively making it impossible to actually sell something compact. one might think "okay but this is probably good, surely their regulations are important?" no! you are mistaken about how the government operates! the newest mandates say that cribs must have four freestanding legs and a raised sleep surface. this actually has nothing to do with the safety of a crib when used normally, and everything to do with making it impossible for parents to use the crib atop a bed. couldn't you just tell people to only use the crib on the floor? yes! in a sane world, you could just sell products with instructions like this. in fact, in almost all instances this is what we do. my baby's bouncer is only supposed to be used on the floor. my car should only be operated by a sober, licensed adult with eyes. but for some reason, the government will not let me buy a portable crib that would be 100% safe when used on the floor, which is undeniably the normal place to put a crib. ironically, a lot of parents were like "sure there are no portable cribs, that's why I just cosleep when I travel! or I just make a nest out of towels and put my baby in a drawer!" both of which are a lot more dangerous than a portable crib used on the floor.

@GreatLakesWife_ Another perspective - some people NOT talking enough about the hard parts so when someone experiences “a hard” it’s like oh obviously something is wrong with me no one else thinks this is hard

Most of these are just normal things adults experience, especially women. 4 maybe could be an ADHD thing, or just introversion. It feels like so many people are desperate to label themselves with some disorder instead of realizing a lot of stuff is just a challenging part of the normal human experience
Sophia ❣️@KeruboSk

Signs of ADHD in women 1. Easily overstimulated by noise (a barking dog, a crying baby, music in the background) 2. Motivation swings between extreme productivity and zero energy 3. A constant mental overload, like having countless tabs open at once 4. Social exhaustion even great nights out require days to recover 5. Replying to messages only when the energy hits… or not at all 6. Staying up late despite being exhausted (hello, revenge bedtime procrastination)

@GreatLakesWife_ I did notice more ovulatory symptoms after I had my first kid. I will say if you’re still breastfeeding, I found my cervical fluid to be sooo imprecise as an indicator of my cycle

Did anyone have pretty severe uterine pain postpartum around the time of ovulation? I’m pretty sure I’m ovulating (based on when my period was and cervical fluid) but I’ve never experienced ovulation pain before. It really, really hurts

Admit it: Your kid mispronounced a word three years ago and now the whole family says it that way. What's the word in your house? (We still say 'pasketti' and I’m not stopping anytime soon.)

@Romy_Holland This is how I felt about my oldest 🤣 I’m not sure if this is good or bad but usually she’d act brand new (aka perfectly happy baby) to whomever was watching her so my instructions sounded totally psycho

just wrote up a baby care instruction doc for my SIL who's gonna watch the baby so we can ski tomorrow. I have never tried to explain how to keep my baby happy before and seeing it written out is pretty intense. it's basically like "just don't ever stop moving, and don't even let yourself think about the construct of sitting. he needs to be presented with a new texture to scratch at once every 90 seconds or he'll get so angry he'll vomit on you. he basically can't sit up, but he loathes lying down so don't do that either. you must clown at least once per wake window, and you're gonna need to invent noises you've never heard before. do not break eye contact. do not show fear."

@emilykmay my dad was like “it worked in 96, it will work in 08” whereas my mom was more likely to say “oh I understand why they now recommend you wait until 6 months to start solids, I’m gonna do that with this one even though we put cereal in my eldest’s bottle at 4mos”

@emilykmay I’m speaking as a sibling - I am 4.5 years older than my brother and then 11.5 years older than my sister - the main thing I observed with my parents is just that there’s new tech and new guidelines to observe but I think that’s more personality dependent -

@TiffaniMarie483 under 10 i wouldn’t be concerned it’s an indicator of life long personality traits and as the oldest of 3 I would also say there’s stuff that amongst siblings is fine but from an outside perspective seems CRAZY

One thing I find difficult about being a parent to 3 kids is that I was an only child. The sibling dynamic is unfamiliar. Are older brothers always natural a-holes?

@etirabys Personally when a place serves waffle fries I give my kids all the butt pieces until they’re old enough to reject them bc I don’t like them. I do a lot of good mom things so I think that one gets wiped out

@etirabys My two cents as a mom of 4 is that you have to do what feels best in the moment. Maybe this kid that means saving the sugar pieces. Kiddo doesn’t know any better and sharing w you has benefits. Maybe in future kids you don’t have the energy for that, that’s fine too!

There's a cereal I and my baby (11 months) love. Every third piece is sugary. I want my baby to not eat sugar until she's 1yo, a local norm I haven't researched and am blindly imitating. So I keep the sweet pieces for myself. Am I a good or bad mom for this? Are you a baby?

@mr_samosaman @etirabys In theory sure (I have 4, ages 5 and under) but honestly their brains develop sooo rapidly that there’s really no such thing as a bad habit to break in a looong term way. Like usually 3-5 days max

@etirabys wouldn’t this teach the baby that eating off the floor is Generally Okay, and make a habit that might be hard to shake later? (I have no kids yet but am curious to update my theory of baby mind)

hung out at friend's house where my baby ate peanuts from the floor (placed there by friend's child), and I was enlightened came home and gave the baby floor cereal instead of putting her in the Eating Chair with the Eating Armor. sat on floor and ate with her (from bowl). happy
