Talking to me co worker about the laughable idea of our SPED teachers “working to rule”. He was telling me about his evening plans and the 3 hrs of paperwork he would need to complete.

What teachers of special education are asked to do is off the charts hard. I think it’s bonkers that differentiated pay scales for SPED aren’t more common in contracts. There’s a reason why it’s typically the hardest teaching positions to fill.

Time and time again in the #SustainableTeaching survey, teachers shared that they did not have enough time to complete basic responsibilities. I'm sure there are opportunities for teachers to be more efficient, but the reality is that teachers have far too many responsibilities.

No grades. Non-compulsory. High accountability. Meritocracy. Community-driven. Public failure/success. Long, lasting bonds and life lessons.

High school sports (this includes marching band, IMO) have the power to positively impact society in ways nothing else can. The more we can do to protect these endeavors, the better.
