If you make a list of the top 10 most important mask vs mask matches of all time in Mexican/Lucha Libre history, on that list somewhere would be the El Solitario vs Dr Wagner one from Monterrey on December 1st, 1985. With full transparency, let me say that it was very common in the 80's for huge names in Lucha to agree to drop their mask in Monterrey when their careers were winding down, and this was one of them. Solitario, one of the top 10 most legendary luchadores of all time, took on Dr. Wagner here (father of Silver King and Dr. Wagner Jr) in a bloodbath. A crazy side note, is 4 months after this, Solitario complained of pains in his stomach, and was misdiagnosed. He sadly died in the hospital of cardiac arrest. Three weeks later, Wagner was paralyzed for life in a car crash that literally changed the dynamic of Lucha Libre, that also killed Angel Blanco and injured many luchadores. Wagner passed away in 2003
