Thread starting here on some of my (developing) thoughts about what kinds of maps would be most useful to help those who are bike-as-transportation-curious, as well as how those who do bike as transportation can make our favorite routes and tricks more accessible to more people.
Mads@MadsPelzel

@MemorialPark Often, when helping people with their first few routes outside a vehicle, the most important thing to teach them and consider is not the route itself, but actually the roads that you absolutely should avoid being on. An attempt at mapping some of those inside 610:

SEPTA has announced a new pilot program, solar-powered digital real-time arrival displays at select bus & trolley stops This comes after local Philly artist @/emeyewhisky created & put up version of their own over the last few months Coincidence, or public art making a change?

SEPTA is launching a pilot program to deploy digital real-time arrival displays at selected bus and trolley stops across the system. The first 10 devices will be installed later this spring. The screens which are solar-powered and use e-paper technology are unique because they are small enough to be mounted on a bus stop sign pole. The e-paper displays are both accessible and sustainable. The solar-powered devices require no equipment beyond a mounting pole which allows for installation at many bus stops that lack access to power or other infrastructure. Each device is equipped with a text-to-speech button enabling blind and low-vision riders to access the same real-time service information. Knowing when the next vehicle will arrive was a top priority for many of the 20,000 riders who participated in comprehensive community engagement efforts for the New Bus Network. Pilot locations will be selected based on two key criteria: overall customer impact and geographic equity. This ensures that the benefits of improved real-time information reach riders across all parts of SEPTA’s service area. Bus stops as well as T, G, D and M Metro stations will be considered for device locations. Riders are encouraged to share feedback about where they would like to see these devices installed. #ISEPTAPHILLY #RideDontDrve

@evan7257 & many more I'd be happy to send from my two stints living there. Could be worth checking out some of London's Low Traffic Neighborhoods -- ex: Waltham Forest. Will you be elsewhere in the UK as well or have time for day trips? Also, @MorrisPelzel liked visiting Bletchley Park.

Ben Taub needs to expand and given their constraints, that parcel of land makes the most sense. Hermann Park should make some demands (perhaps shared parking, park-style landscaping, etc) but in the hierarchy of public health needs, Ben Taub wins this round.

This is so cheap. James was the first person to introduce the bill. He used his personal story to build massive public support for it. Then you made him — the guy with diabetes — take second billing because you wanted your name at the top.
Senator Lois Kolkhorst@LoisKolkhorst

Respectfully, @jamestalarico, let’s set the record straight about how the price of insulin was lowered for Texans. The truth is that you did not author the bill that passed in 2021. I filed, authored and passed that bill – SB 827 – which ultimately capped out-of-pocket monthly costs for insurance-covered insulin at $25.   In the Texas House, Rep. Eddie Lucio III was my House sponsor. It passed out of the House Insurance Committee with Chair @TomOliverson’s help.   Texans deserve the facts on who really delivered healthcare savings on insulin. It was based on President Trump’s initiative from July, 2020 and was ultimately a Republican-led policy change. It’s campaign season. The facts are the facts. Let’s stick with them! #txlege #TXSen
