This is massive misinformation. It’s not from Igbo culture at all.
It’s specifically from Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and has nothing to do with the Igbo culture. I’ve seen some Igbo people trying to claim it but honestly it’s not ours to claim.
In Sinners, there’s a musical montage / dance sequence in the juke joint scene where Sammie’s music kind of transcends time. The scene shows dancers and musicians from different eras of Black culture and intentionally blends past, present and future Black musical traditions.
One of the dancers shown briefly is performing Zaouli, which is a traditional dance from the Guro people of Côte d’Ivoire. That’s also why you saw it performed at the Oscars.

@AyySweetsTea9 Its the reality of dating tbh and she said herself it was worth the risk. If you’re not prepared to be open and vulnerable what is the point 😭

I think Leanne is either scared to tell Scott she really really likes him or she might be thinking to herself is Scott serious or just playing a game. Who knows 🤷♀️ #LoveIslandAllStars #LoveIsland

I thought it was a rom com and I needed a little pick-me-up. I should have just stabbed myself in the lung instead

Tyla does not make afrobeats music. She makes Amapiano, Afro House and Pop music. Her winning Afrobeats awards in Western music awards shows means she's actively participating in the erasure of Nigerian, and Ghanaian artists who make actual Afrobeats music. We either have to fight for more recognition of African music and our many genres to be awarded, like the Latin music industry is recognized or she has to *continue* speaking up, as she has done before, or they will use her to erase West African culture and music, and whitewash it all.

Yes the Brit School succeeds once again! It’s done great work to produce stars from a country entrenched within classism and barriers to access.
There’s a wider conversion around access to (super)stardom outside of this school in music if you’re British, but not today.

Another huge story: Lola Young, Olivia Dean and FKA Twigs -> All 3 who are Brits who won Grammy's last night, all went to the same school. The same school produced 3 Grammy winners in 1 night. Other alumni from that school include Amy Winehouse, Adele, Raye and Jessie J.

La méconnaissance des ghanéens au sujet de la Côte d’Ivoire me fascine, pourtant beaucoup de leurs compatriotes vivent chez nous
