1. There was no real improvement in the quality of Irish rivers or lakes in 2022. High levels of nitrogen and phosphorus (mostly from agriculture and wastewater) are damaging Irish waters. Read EPA’s latest Water Quality Report here: bit.ly/3oVYe8P #water #waterquality

So too are the inadequate wastewater treatment systems in the county. Needs to be fixed urgently.

Tuned into #EPAWater2023 today. Limerick catchments - the Maigue and the Deel inside yellow box - are really impacted by phosphorus loss into rivers. Heavy soils & arterial drainage are major contributing factors. Good riparian margins will help intercept the sediment and P loss.

Excessive algal growth in the lower Dalligan River, Ballyvoyle Cove, #Waterford today. #ClimateChange predictions mean that our rivers will have lower volumes of warmer water in summer dry spells so ability of rivers to dilute and assimilate pollutants will be reduced.⚠️

Just 5 days left to "Discover the Nature of the Maigue River" 2023 event in Croom on Sat 20th. A few spots are left for the afternoon paddle. We will be based in Croom Town Park all day; call in to discuss all things river, biodiversity & angling. 😀
