And the timing is brutal. Same fortnight: Anthropic overtook OpenAI on verified business customers (Ramp data). Enterprise share over twelve months: Claude +128%, Gemini +48%, OpenAI -8%. OpenAI gave up checkout. Now it is losing enterprise too.

OpenAI just abandoned Instant Checkout. Six months ago they were building the closed checkout loop with Stripe. This week the public language shifted from "pivoting" to "abandoned." The merchants won the argument.

Enterprise vendor onboarding takes 3-6 months. Legal review, DPA, security, finance, vendor risk. AWS Marketplace bypasses all of it. Adding Claude becomes a budget decision, not a vendor onboarding decision. That gap is the entire commercial logic of the announcement.
