South Sudan President Salva Kiir last week appointed a man (Steward Sorobo Budia) who DIED FIVE YEARS AGO to a consultative group for the planned December 2026 elections. It gets better. Budia’s family has now demanded cultural and moral reparations, describing the inclusion as a "serious cultural and spiritual violation"!!! Had never figured that South Sudanese have this much sense of humour🙃

Words fail me😭 How does one begin to eulogize such a great man, a Statesman I held in profound regard and deeply respected? Every moment I was privileged to share with him, whether in Nairobi, in high-level engagements in London, Addis Ababa, Victoria Falls and elsewhere during his tenure as the AU High Representative for Infrastructure Development and the 2022 presidential campaigns, or across African capitals during the AUC campaign revealed the depth of his greatness, vision and courage. Baba, last Wednesday you spoke to me with such calm assurance. You said you were doing better, just resting, and that you would be back in Nairobi by the end of this week. And now a week later, you are gone 😭 No matter how I try to write, words fall short. Your legacy will endure, but your absence will be profoundly felt. Rest in Peace, Baba Raila Odinga. To Mama Ida, Rosemary, Raila Jr., Winnie and the entire family, may you find strength and peace in this very difficult moment. You are in my thoughts and prayers. 🙏🏾

A lot of time is lost and wasted on useless consultations (that are barely attended by people with knowledge of issues) and end up with futile reports. While it isn't solely the work of the government to resolve these issues, the government should directly involve the community.
