One other ironic aspect of Malawi is that highly educated people often perform worse and are more corrupt in leadership positions than their less-educated counterparts. This is also evident in the case of the new MACRA DG, Maya Nkoloma, compared to his predecessor, Daud Suleman.

@MakwinjaV If Airtel congratulated him as CEO of iMoSyS, that is an even bigger red flag. You cannot serve as the chief regulator of the telecom sector while actively running a private tech company.

Personal milestones are private. My point is about stndrd corporate governance. A senior post is a massive achievement on its own, so why didn't the Malawi Airlines CEO or BWB chair get this level of corporate PR? Monopolies only fund PR campaigns when it serves a busns interest.

They should not have congratulated his PhD at all. Professional courtesy ended when they congratulated him for taking office. Celebrating his personal academic milestones crosses the line from courtesy into lobbying.

Oversight requires a strict arm's-length distance.

There is nothing wrong with congratulations. But when the exact companies being regulated constantly applaud the regulator, consumers have to ask questions.
