“Black Square” is not only one of the most expensive, but also one of the most mysterious paintings in the world. Not many people know that underneath the layers of paint of “Black Square” are two more paintings.
X-rays have revealed complex interlocking geometric shapes. These are two very different paintings. And they're both in color.
That the “Black Square” is not simple, and inside another image, knew already in the nineties of the last century, after the first studies. But the technique did not allow us to understand what exactly was there.
The paint used was complex, consisting of several substances. With the help of a special combination of pigments a special velvety effect was obtained, which Malevich needed. Because he needed not just a black color, but a deep black abyss.
Now “Black Square” will become even more expensive, because he keeps not one picture, but as many as three. Therefore, interest in it will certainly not disappear.
