Thinking about this today - the humanities are so important. Care about your HEART health (History, English (and other language), Art, Research, Teaching).

If you cannot loudly and firmly resist "humanoids" called Plato teaching our youth, you have no place in any movement that calls itself "classical." It's time to draw some lines in the sand. I know which side I am on. Do you?

@CoreyMiles__ You've gotta be a big dweeb to want to be an academic in the first place - but to want to be an academic that doesn't do anything remotely related to reading and writing? LOSER behavior!! What are you here for????

One way you can tell these people do not go to church is that they have no idea what one 67-year-old lady from Redeemer Lutheran can fit in a station wagon. This is a 2/10 on the church potluck scale, not even trying that hard.

🚨 BREAKING: The “No-Go-Zone” in Minneapolis is getting fully stocked like a pop-up leftist supply depot, free hand warmers, winter gear, coffee, food, milk, you name it. This is PROFESSIONAL-grade logistics. Someone is BANKROLLING this autonomous zone.

“What he [the European bourgeois] cannot forgive Hitler for is not the crime in itself, the crime against man, it is not the humiliation of man as such, it is the crime against the white man, the humiliation of the white man, and the fact that he applied to Europe colonialist procedures which until then had been reserved exclusively for the Arabs of Algeria, the coolies of India, and the Blacks of Africa.” - Aime Césaire.

'We're shifting to a world without rules. Imperial ambitions are resurfacing.' President Macron references "fundamentally unacceptable tariffs used as leverage against sovereignty' during his speech in Davos. This comes after Trump shared a text between the two on his socials

“One day our society will come to respect the sanitation worker if it is to survive, for the person who picks up our garbage, in the final analysis, is as significant as the physician, for if he doesn’t do his job, diseases are rampant. All labor has dignity.” —MLK jr

@dioscuri I mean, Sam Altman would have to 1) ask people how to care for his baby 2) read a book 3) google it and read a few articles…. All of which are what people actually do; not some notional ideal. I doubt he would be checking costar to see when to feed a baby.

This is a good heuristic across many AI use cases (AI tutors, companions, art). Don’t compare the behaviour to a notional ideal (a private tutor, a spouse, commissioning an artist). Compare it to the actual substitute good, which is often “nothing”, or something worse.

When people take too much life advice from ChatGPT one has to ask: what would they have done if not for ChatGPT? I think that in a fair number of cases the answer is astrology or whatnot. Poor epistemics is fairly general.

Trump tried to make friends with Zohran by quoting Kautsky only to get schooled with more appropriate references to Debs, Harrington, and Gramsci. He'll do better next time, if he does the reading

It really sucks how the key to writing is really to just be stressed out for days before you actually sit down to write, obsessively thinking about the topic to the detriment of your health and personal life.

copy editing straight up does not fucking exist anymore & publications of all kinds at the highest levels of professionalism are rife with spelling, grammatical, mechanical, usage errors & AI killed any hope of it ever getting better because they're training on the shitty data.

But really, what this underscores is that the Wonk Blogger Generation really did go "woke" when the political winds were blowing that way and now that they no longer are they're fully comfortable throwing marginalized people under the bus.
