Draft Day will always hit differently for me. #MLBDraft I came from a one-stoplight town in northern Pennsylvania. My graduating class had 32 kids. Then one phone call changed my life. The Cleveland Indians selected me in the third round of the 2002 MLB Draft. Not because I was a finished product, but because someone believed in what I could become. Tonight, dreams are coming true for players and families across the country. But when your name is called, the work isn’t finished. It’s just beginning. Be grateful. Stay humble. Bet on your development. Sometimes all a young player needs is one organization willing to believe in his ceiling. ⚾️ 🇺🇸🙌

‘29 Rhys Jones (Langley || @DMVProspectsBSB) FB: 79-81 T82 CB: 66 CH: 73 Pitched a complete game shutout with 18ks. Completely dominated with the low 80s fastball and mixing in a mid 60s curveball and a low 70s changeup. Was able to use all pitches effectively for strikes and whiffs. @PrepBaseballVA #VA71 #DCSummerChamp

When I was 13 years old, I told my dad I wanted to become a Major League Baseball player. He looked at me and said, "You can... but we need a plan." So we sat down and made one. First, we created the big vision. Play in the Major Leagues. Then we worked backwards. We made a one-year plan. At the time, I wanted to make a better travel team and play in bigger tournaments. Then we made a season plan. Then a monthly plan. Then a weekly plan. Then a daily plan. Some days it was: - 50 swings to left-center. - 50 swings up the middle. - 50 swings to right-center. Other days it was: - Dry swings. - Push-ups. - Sit-ups. - Sprints. - Up-downs. Every week, we'd sit back down together. We'd look at the plan. Keep what was working. Change what wasn't. We repeated that process for years. Eventually... I played in the Major Leagues. Because here's one thing I learned from my dad: Dreams don't become reality because you have a vision. They become reality because you have a plan. Most players have goals. Very few have a system for reaching them. Thank you for reading, Jermaine Curtis P.S. - If you enjoyed this and thought it was helpful, please share it. (This tells me you want more content like this.)

Baseball is a game of failure. The best hitters fail 7 out of 10 times. You can throw a perfect pitch and still give up a hit. Sometimes your best swing finds a glove. Sometimes your worst swing finds grass. The scoreboard doesn't always tell the truth. Confidence isn't built by success. It's built by surviving failure. Baseball doesn't build character. It reveals it. Pressure doesn't create you. It exposes your preparation. Body language is part of your scouting report. Your teammates are always watching. Your coaches are always watching. Someone is always watching. The game owes you nothing. Every strikeout is a choice: Feel sorry for yourself... or get ready for your next at-bat. Failure is inevitable. Your response is your career.
