Yes when the average person yearns to have their time wasted by call centers on the other side of the planet instead of being in an AI hellscape, you've fucked up.
Madison Mills@MadisonMills22
Corporate America enters its AI reckoning phase as IT bills keep rising and consumer sentiment nosedives. My latest, which includes an account from a CFO fretting over a half a *billion* dollar accidental AI bill: axios.com/2026/05/28/ai-…

@ChromeLinkzz @TawhakiTheGod I'm only using San Diego for the high power rate however Jesus you guys are underpaid compared to your cost of living. Like horrifically.
Atleast you don't go into generational debt every time you go to a hospital tho.
English

@TawhakiTheGod @k3v_kryptonite California is just a good comparison because of the electric and gas rates being high while it can get all of the seasons in the right areas (so not where I am). Given the Midwest is what like 15 cents a kwh
English

@k3v_kryptonite @MamboFloof Comparing the richest US state with the UK is a bit silly.
English

@TawhakiTheGod @PennyHandful It also helps to turn it on in the morning when it's cool so it's just maintaining a temperature rather than the afternoon when it's already hot. It has to work a lot harder and longer.
English

@PennyHandful @MamboFloof I wonder if it would be effective in my ancient drafty hovel
English

@TawhakiTheGod I'm always trying to compare to homes in Mexico for insulation because of how they are built. Those places get COLD at night and stay "cool" in the heat cus of all the tile. It's interesting you have kind of the opposite in the summer.
English

It varies a lot.
My hovel was built circa 1538AD, oak, wattle and daub lime mortar. The downstairs rooms with Tudor brick or carpet on rammed earth floors stay weirdly cool. It is an oven upstairs.
Freezing in the winter unless you light a fire in what would have been the medieval kitchen. That warms the whole place up.
There's no such thing as a typical British house.

@warmoaran3s @abbs9476 Tbh I assume anyone with a bitmoji icon is a troll
English

@abbs9476 @MamboFloof And I can't believe how incredibly biased you are. Just take a little look at your own bio. I do not trust a damn word you type
English

@TawhakiTheGod I'm in San Diego so the average is 42 cents per kWh (variable rate bullshit). But the most expensive month I've had was $150 with a minor issue with the unit. Your guys houses must retain heat to the point you absolutely can't cool them down which is insane.
English

@MamboFloof I don't know about London but it's about $33c per kWh in yank money.
It's hundreds of pounds a month in the winter for heating, and many people spread it out over 12 months because less is used in summer.
English

@StevenAppleton_ @rosiegeo1317 @warmoaran3s What's your electric rate or is your place absolutely massive? Cus if it's a similar rate to the US you guys have massive heat renention issues and need to ventilate your attics.
(also turn it on when it's cool, not when it's hot. It's way cheaper)
English

@rosiegeo1317 @warmoaran3s @MamboFloof I have AC in the UK, cost me thousands to install, without using the AC in the winter because gas to heat the place is so much cheaper, electricity costs me around £140 a month, with AC, £250 a month, which is $336 USD a month
English

@neilstitfer I've literally been there for 2 weeks during a heat wave. And no I called that a Midwest summer. The only thing that sucked was not being able to get out of it whenever I wanted.
Try doing yard work for 10 hours a day when it's 100(38) and pure humidity. That's real heat.
English

@MamboFloof Common sense stops us wasting money on Aircon.
We buy umbrellas instead.
And trust me, you haven't experienced British heat. It hits different
English

@TawhakiTheGod Doesn't London convert to a similar electric rate to California? The $40 it may cost you for the wave shouldn't break the bank? And these things can run as heaters in the winter.
English

@MamboFloof Electricity costs a million pounds.
Half of us can barely heat our hovels in the winter, to run air-conditioning would be crushingly expensive without a substantial investment in solar panels - assuming you can have them.
English

@John_W_Frum Does it get cold? Those ac units often double as heaters.
English

@warmoaran3s The point is, if this is gonna become a yearly concern there's a very cheap solution that works every year. And those things can double as heaters for the winter.
English

@MamboFloof I've heard about that happening in Michigan tbh
But you still compared the UK to the US, despite being not comparable. The US is large with many different climates.
English

@MamboFloof Literal gay furry in a minority white country that's been conquered by mexicans calling us unserious and talking about the mid west like anyone outside your mexican caliphate knows what that is

English

@5tillfree Sorry I don't swallow, I prefer it in or on me instead. Try again 💔 🥀
