While I was getting my car serviced, Mercedes let me borrow a new S 580e with a $144K sticker price The steering wheel has all touch controls made from cheap plastic while my 2022 GLE has aluminum buttons and knurled thumb controls What are we even doing here

@flyosity @MercedesBenz Both of those are horrific. That microscopic finger swiper has to be the worst thing I've ever used on a car. Mercedes immediately lost a sale and watched me walk across the street to Land Rover. Oh and BTW IIRC that's aluminum colored plastic.

Second vehicle I’ve bought with a keyed hitch pin and no keys. Like all locks, easily defeated if someone is determined enough. I suppose these keyed locks are more secure than a regular pin and cotter at least to the casual opportunist. If you find yourself in this situation, though, don’t worry. Just grab a jack handle or sturdy pipe with some leverage.

@Loopify And there was absolutely nothing you could do to prevent this unless you completely replaced it with an aftermarket metal pipe. When it blew, you'd overheat very quick cus the cars have forced induction, and it's basically perpetually fucked from there.

@Loopify 2021 is when they switched to Ingenium iirc. That's why you aren't crapping out. The AJ126/133 cars all had the same issues, the most damning of which was the PLASTIC crossover pipe self destructing out of warranty. They were time bombs.

My Range Rover I got in 2021 hasn’t had a single issue. I feel like the reliability is just about multiple drivers who don’t service the car and drive it crazy (like most cars). Or I just got lucky.
