I have loved being your closest support over these years.

I am so proud of Manasvee! Congratulations on finalising your PhD the journey over the last three years has been hectic, but I know the result is worth it.

As I write my thesis, the puzzle pieces of my research are coming together and deepening my foundation. I can’t help but wonder what impact my PhD could have had if I knew at the start what I know now. This paradox excites me for the potential of my next position in academia!

Day 5 featured 5 talks on instrumental & technical contributions to SKA. Highlights: Sujin Eie’s talk on BURST in Taiwan detecting many bright and nearby FRBs, Taehyun Jung’s overview of the Korean VLBI network and Jae-Young Kim’s multi-wavelength view of double-radio AGN-spirals

Over the next 5 days I will be attending (and presenting at) the 2023 East-Asia SKA workshop in Jeju Island. This is my first time in South Korea 🇰🇷 and travelling internationally for a conference. Excited for the connections I’m about to make 🤩

The last session of today focused on pulsars and gravitational wave research - a comprehensive overview of a field I’m not super familiar with! Learned something new today 😊

Next, Narenrit Thananusak presented the velocity width dependent clustering of HI galaxies, Panomporn Poojon detected extragalactic anomalous microwave emission using KVN as single disk and Bumhyun Lee used multi-point structure function to study turbulence of HI in the SMC.

The rest of Day 3 was dedicated to excursions to KVN and a healing forest. I got to see a radio telescope in person for the first time! I have worked on data from ATCA, HIPASS, ASKAP and Arecibo and now I have a picture with KVN Tamna!

Day 3 Talk 5: Kohei Kurahara studied the radio properties of the head-tail galaxy in Abell 3322 and Day 3 Talk 6: Yohei Mishiro analysed the power spectrum of intergalactic turbulent magnetic fields.

Day 2 Talk 12: Kiyoaki Omori spoke about his work identifying AGN mergers with machine learning techniques. They find mergers occur more easily in high density environments and that merger probability is dependent on merger identification method.

Day 2 Talk 11: Nissim Kanekar from @NCRA_Outreach presented the his students’ works on HI properties of blue galaxies at z ~ 1. These galaxies have more HI, dominating baryons, & short HI depletion times than those at z ~0. They will extend this study to red galaxies with COSMOS.

Day 2 Talk 9: @KHesser gave a fantastic overview of galaxy evolution is large scale structure, sharing many works I’m familiar with and highlighting some interesting unanswered questions. This talk definitely got me excited for the future science to be uncovered!
