Escape into Old Florida at Johnson Preserve at Braden River. Paddle quietly down the Braden River, soak in the peaceful surroundings, watch fish dart beneath your kayak and enjoy the calm beauty hidden right here in Manatee County. For those looking for a longer adventure, continue paddling downriver toward Linger Lodge Restaurant for a unique riverside stop full of classic Florida charm. This route offers a beautiful mix of wildlife, shaded riverbanks and a true disconnect from the busy day-to-day. ⚠️ Paddler Note: This is a more difficult launch access and is better suited for experienced paddlers. You will need to carry or cart your kayak down to the launch area, and a kayak cart is highly recommended. Be prepared for a little extra work — the peaceful paddle is worth it. 📌9906 Clubhouse Drive, Bradenton, 34202

🐾 It’s National Rescue Dog Day, and there’s no better time to make a shelter dog’s day a little brighter. Through Manatee County’s Doggy Day Out program, you can take a shelter dog—young or old—for a fun day away from the shelter. Whether it’s a walk through local preserves, grabbing a pup cup, or simply spending quality time together outdoors, these outings give dogs a much-needed break from the shelter and help them show off their personalities outside the kennel. All of these lovable faces are available for adoption at Manatee County Animal Welfare at Bishop Animal Shelter! Schedule your appointment through mymanatee.org/adopt or call 941-742-5933 to set up a doggy day out!
