We're sending HUGE congratulations to Mark Bailey for winning the Joan Thirsk Memorial Prize. His work, 'Serfdom in medieval England: Theory and practice 1200-1500' explores how serfdom operated in practice, why it has shaped major historical debates, and how new evidence shows that English serfdom was far weaker than traditionally believed.
The prize panel praised the book for the "clarity of the analysis, and readable style, [which] will ensure this becomes a key text for established researchers and first-year undergraduates alike".
