Powdery Mildew of Canola – Fall 2025 Late season development of powdery mildew in canola has come up again in 2025. The PCDMN has prepared an overview on this issue which can be found at the link below: prairiecropdisease.com/2025/10/24/pow… #PCDMN supporting #Plant25 for #WestCdnAg

Verticillium stripe The combo of peeling outer stem skin AND black microsclerotia flecks underneath is unique to this disease. (Video 1 of 2 from ⁦@AAFC_Canada⁩ Morden yesterday)

@hsiemens Verticillium stripe, wind, and heavy rains would be my guesses.

@megnmoran Hopefully it isn't causing too much loss in the winter cultivars, it'd be interesting to see symptom comparisons between nearby winter and spring cultivars at the same time (my guess the spring ones won't be showing much, but it'll still be inside)

@ManchurCCC Winter! In an area where there is still some spring production, and the growers likely used to grow spring canola.

With all the moisture, we expect to see sooty moulds and other saprophytic fungi growing on canola pods and stems. They are not usually a problem and we can't do much about it anyway. However, SK agronomist Bryce Moore shared these photos today. Shrivelled seeds inside.

Sincere thanks to @WabKinew & the MB govt team today, urging the Cdn govt to support canola farmers and restore trade with China. Farmers need market access, as heard directly from Warren Ellis, Board Chair of MCGA @CanolaGrowers and Jill Verway, President of @KAP_Manitoba

If you're seeing premature ripening in your field (yellow pods), take a quick look to see if it could be verticillium stripe, sclerotinia, or now potentially cabbage seedpod weevil.
CW Jay Whetter@CanolaWatch

Farmers in the eastern Prairies may find – for the first time – cabbage seedpod weevil carnage in pods. The pest made a big push east. More: canolacouncil.org/canola-watch/f… The video from @soniasadventur is from Sanford, Man. Larvae exit holes in pods indicate damage inside.

@Mullin_95 Canola will take whatever rain it can get, but late flowering looks to be the max utilization based on AB irrigation data.
