I wonder how this claim about Tolkien got started. I hate superfluous text as much as anyone, and loathe Tolkien’s songs (for instance) but I do not see any case where he over-describes. Like when he describes Minas Tirith, it’s all apropos of what is at risk & what will be happening in the next section. Heck, Lovecraft would make a better foil for over-description.

We know the massive impacts of early read alouds at home. We know how important home libraries are. So, what's the problem?
