Christian women, please take part in this research for my upcoming book with NavPress ("What Women Know About Jesus"), exploring our Kingdom capacities that often aren't seen as leadership capacities. And feel free to share the survey with others too. forms.gle/QezwuBCc1diCR3…

It makes no sense. The more I give my life to Jesus, the more Mandy I become.

Today is my last day posting things online before I take my summer screen sabbatical until September. I plan to finish the first draft of my novel, and for me, good writing only happens in tandem with good reading. On my summer stack so far: • Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, by Susanna Clarke • Table for Two, by Amor Towles • I Cheerfully Refuse, by Leif Enger • How Fiction Works, by James Wood • Mastering the Process, by Elizabeth George • Mystery and Manners, by Flannery O'Connor • On Writing & Writers, by C.S. Lewis I'd like to find one more novel. I'm talking well-written, thoughtful but not pretentious; readable but not silly. Open to any genre. I read a LOT of old classic literature, so I prefer finding a newer book that reads like an older classic. What would you recommend? (art: Still Life with Books and Candle, 1890, by Henri Matisse)

@tsh Have you read Everything Sad Is Untrue? Both winsome and moving—my favourite kind of reading.

Ministry friends, on this huge week in our Church calendar, it's easy to feel pressure to be perfect. But hidden in the story we're telling is a reminder that most of Jesus' closest friends were far from perfect. And it didn't keep him from revealing life and light.

I'm so glad to be back at the Eugene Peterson Center for Christian Imagination at @westernsem this week for the final cohort gathering of my Doctor of Ministry program. Such a wonderful group of people to be with and setting to be in. @winncollier @MandySmithHopes @TrygveJohnson

The point of Sabbath-keeping is not to live an idyllic life through management of our time and energy. The point is to reveal to us the limitations of human efforts. So, ironically, our attempts to perfectly manage our rest can undermine the whole point. missioalliance.org/tired-of-feeli…

Big personal news! I'm under new literary representation, now working with dear friend and publishing *legend* Whitney Gossett. We're circulating the proposal for The Fire Cantos, my major work-in-progress, soon. It is a deeply spiritual narrative poem of wildfire in the West.
