One of the most encouraging shifts happening in Nigeria’s energy sector is seeing stronger alignment between government, private developers, and financing institutions around the shared goal of expanding energy access at scale. I am pleased to see the collaboration between Nasarawa Investment and Development Agency and ACOB Lighting Technology Limited toward accelerating sustainable electrification across Nasarawa State. ACOB has already demonstrated strong execution capacity within the state, successfully deploying six solar mini-grid projects ranging from 150KWp to 1MW across multiple communities. Their commitment to invest over ₦35 billion into decentralised energy infrastructure reflects the growing confidence in Nigeria’s renewable energy landscape. What is particularly significant is the ambition behind this next phase, the proposed deployment of an additional 50 solar mini-grid systems across communities in all Local Government Areas of the state. This is exactly the kind of scalable, partnership driven approach we need to bridge the energy access gap, combining public sector coordination, private sector execution, and innovative financing to deliver reliable electricity where it is needed most. At the Rural Electrification Agency, we remain committed to enabling the ecosystem that allows initiatives like this to thrive, because sustainable electrification is ultimately about unlocking productivity, opportunity, and inclusive economic growth. The work continues. #NIS26 #EnergyAccess #MiniGrids #RenewableEnergy #RuralElectrification #CleanEnergyNigeria #PoweringCommunities #PoweringNigeria #abbaaliyu

Real progress in energy access happens when capital, ideas, and experience come together with a clear focus on delivery. It was a privilege to join the AMP Community of Practice convening at the Energy Access Investment Forum in Nairobi, where I delivered opening remarks at the session on Business Models and Pilot Projects, led by Alberto Rodríguez. At the Rural Electrification Agency, our work has shown that renewable energy must go beyond basic connections, it must drive real economic activity. This is where interconnected mini-grids have proven particularly impactful. By combining solar generation, battery storage, and grid integration, these systems are delivering more reliable power, increasing customer connections by over 95%, and significantly boosting energy consumption for productive use. Through initiatives like the Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (IMAS), we are seeing how these models can reduce reliance on diesel, improve service quality, and create value not just for communities, but also for utilities. What stood out during this convening is the importance of honest, experience-driven conversations. Platforms like AMP allow us to share what is working, challenge what is not, and refine the partnerships and models needed to scale. From our experience in Nigeria, one thing is clear, success in this sector requires more than technology or funding. It demands strong collaboration between developers, DisCos, communities, and policymakers, backed by adaptive regulation and long-term commitment. The opportunity ahead is significant but it will only be realised through partnerships that are practical, aligned, and focused on outcomes. The work continues. #EnergyAccess #MiniGrids #CleanEnergyAfrica #RenewableEnergy #PoweringCommunities #EnergyInvestment #PublicPrivatePartnership #PoweringNigeria #abbaaliyu

During the recent 2024 Global Off-Grid Solar Forum & Expo in Nairobi, Kenya, I had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals and participate in discussions relevant to the sustainability and success of the global off-grid infrastructure sector. The event provided a platform to delve into the specifics and explore the impact of off-grid deployments in addressing the energy deficit in Africa. It also highlighted potential areas for growth, emphasising that energy planning is now a fundamental aspect of government programs, moving beyond solely relying on least-cost studies. Here are some key insights I shared at the forum: 1. Public-private partnerships are crucial for driving sustainable and scalable electrification projects. These partnerships should combine policy, finance, and technology to ensure a holistic approach. 2. Setting up standardisation centres can further enhance the adoption of cutting-edge innovations in solar technology. This can help reduce costs and enhance efficiency in providing reliable and affordable energy to rural communities. 3. Data-driven approaches are important for identifying the most cost-effective electrification solutions for those who need them most. 4. Results-based financing is a powerful mechanism to incentivise performance and drive impactful outcomes that will promote renewable energy. 5. Establishing energy efficiency initiatives can promote energy-efficient practices and technologies that reduce consumption and improve grid stability. 6. Collaboration with neighbouring countries to share knowledge, resources, and best practices is crucial in achieving universal access to energy sooner. 7. It's important to recognise how the lack of energy access impedes on the quality of life in education, health, economy, and social aspects. I am confident about the future of energy access in Nigeria and the African continent as a whole. I believe that with the right collaborations and partnerships, the end to energy poverty in Africa is within reach. #GOGSFE24 #RuralElectrification #SGD7 #EnergyTransition #PublicPrivatePartnership #SustainableDevelopment #EnergyAccess #NigerianEconomy #AfricaRising

@solo4god @aksgovt While this is a laudable initiative, I implore the @aksgovt to broker such collaborations with China, especially in the areas of advanced technology, AI, and areas of comparative strength that China has that’s inline with governments broader development plans.
