If there's one thing we can all appreciate about the ottomans it's their famous lack of wars with Iran
Daily Turkic@DailyTurkic
The fact that the Ottoman Empire kept the Middle East stable for half a millennium without any of today’s chaos is absolutely insane.

One of the strangest things about football is how transfer fees in the tens or hundreds of millions have completely desensitized fans to real money. We casually say things like "It's only £5 million, why can't they just pay it?" or "Just £10 million, come on." But the people actually running clubs, the owners, executives, finance teams, they treat every pound like it matters. Because it does.
Before we go into how much it means in football, just £1 million would change anyone’s life- Forever. Including your favorite footballers. Look at me doing it again. I just prefixed £1 million with “just”. Smh
£10 million extra is not pocket change. For most clubs, it is transformative.
Like with Stoke city here, £10 million could fund major upgrades at even the biggest clubs. It can modernize training facilities, kickstart academy expansions that produce future talent and PSR-exempt revenue. Aston Villa spent £29.7 million over two years on stadium and retail improvements recently.
Even united spent about £50 million on a new training ground recently. That kind of money may not buy a lot of superstars today but it is the kind of investment that changes how a club operates day to day. For smaller or mid-table clubs, £5 million could even fund a new pitch, a medical centre, or community regeneration projects that boost local support and long-term value.
In hiring, £5 million can cover high-calibre staff. A top director of football costs £1 to £2 million per year in total package. By the time you add specialist coaches, data analysts, or physios to reduce injuries and improve performance. You could even bankroll multiple key appointments that shift the culture and competitiveness of the entire club. This fund comes to play even in operations as well. It is no small money.
Fans see headlines but Decision-makers see balance sheets. That £5 million gap you are telling your club to just pay could mean survival, growth, or stagnation. It could mean the difference between promoting a youth player or buying a replacement. Between keeping your best coach or losing them to a rival. Between financial stability and PSR sanctions.
Real football finance is not glamorous. It is ruthless maths. And the clubs that treat it like ruthless maths are the ones that survive and thrive. The clubs that treat it like Monopoly money are the ones that end up in administration.
So next time you see a transfer collapse over £5 million, remember this. The people making those decisions are not being cheap. They are being careful. Because in football, careful is what keeps the lights on. I wrote a piece on it recently. You should read it.
