This is only true if you use the modern day meaning of the word 'Duits'. When the Dutch national anthem - oldest in the world btw- was written, it meant Dutch. And yes, it has the same etymological origin as the word Germans use to refer to themselves, 'Deutsch', just like the terms 'Slovakian' and 'Slovenian' ultimately have the same root, but refer to different peoples. Over the centuries, Dutch self-designation changed to 'Nederlands', but it used to be 'Duuts, Duits or Diets', hence the English term 'Dutch'.
