President William Ruto’s TUTAM brigadier Faith Nguthu has waded into the storm around the controversial UDA-ODM broadbased pact, terming ODM’s reported demands as unrealistic and disruptive to the government.
While speaking to KTN, Faith Nguthu has argued that ODM's push for the Deputy President slot, 8 Cabinet Secretaries, the Speaker of the Senate, 14 Permanent Secretaries, and the release of Ksh 12 B it claims is owed to ODM amounts to “holding the Broadbased arrangement at ransom.”
Faith has also said the Broadbased agenda was meant to stabilize governance, not to auction state offices, and warned that such demands risk undermining public trust in the coalition framework.
Nguthu has maintained that President Ruto’s approach has been to directly engage leaders across the aisle, but insisted any deal must be guided by democracy and service delivery, not political shopping lists.
The remarks come as ODM has reportedly suspended coalition talks with UDA, according to the Daily Nation, amid claims that President Ruto has begun directly courting ODM leaders.
Nguthu told KTN that dialogue is welcome, but “negotiation cannot mean UDA surrendering 3/4 of the cake to ODM.”
With the Broadbased arrangement under fresh scrutiny, Nguthu has said that TUTAM movement will continue defending the President’s agenda and called on ODM to return to talks with “proposals that build the country, and not breaking the government.”
