Maple Class were secret code busters in computing this afternoon as they learnt all about morse code and used torches to send their own messages 🕵️♀️🕵️♂️ #PinehurstComputing

These children were incredibly proud of their information posters explaining all about Ramadan, fasting and why it is important to Muslims. #PinehurstRE

In computing, we were having fun with flags! Year 5 learnt all about semaphore and how flags can be used to send codes. The practised sending their own codes and cracking others. #PinehurstComputing

To start our Properties and Changes in Materials science unit, the children made “Dancing Raisins” and observed how the carbon dioxide bubbles made the raisins float and then popped, making them sink. #PinehurstScience

Maths is off to a strong start in Year 5 as we’ve been learning about numbers up to 1,000,000! The class have been working on their understanding of place value and journaling their learning. #PinehurstMaths

Some spectacular sewing in Maple Class today as children reused old fabric to make phone cases as part of their “Make do and mend” DT unit 🪡🧵The unit links with our WW2 history topic and thinking about how we can be more sustainable to protect our planet 🌍 #PinehurstDT

Maple Class really enjoyed their field trip to Stanley Park today. It was a great opportunity to put our compass and map reading skills to the test! 🧭

For the past two days, we have been looking at our new book called Oranges in No Man’s Land. The book is set during the civil war in Lebanon. Today we looked at pictures of Beirut before and during the war.

As part of our Earth and space science unit, Year 5 have worked together to measure how the size and direction of shadows change throughout the day. We will record our results in a graph, analysis our findings and use our knowledge to explain what has happened. #Pinehurstscience
