Al Unser, Sr. & the No. 2 Johnny Lightning Special got me started in 1970. Many, many races since. That’s me on the flag stand in the pics above… so cool to do.

@KevinLee23 No one wore sweatpants or shorts like Robin did.

Out of respect to Robin Miller, no sweat pants on TV for me 🤣. Only a select few can pull off that look!

This door just hits different in May.
It started with an idea, and a drawing.

Mick catching grief for this but his honesty needs context. Day 1. ROP. Gradual pace increase. Car isn’t trimmed out. Stands aren’t full. No pack running. He hasn’t yet driven IMS in anger. He’s also prepared for this. Phoenix was a step into the unknown. Something new and awe inspiring. This is the next step up. Not the giant leap it might have been were it, as for many recent rookies, his first oval.
His comparison to F1 is also key but likely to be misunderstood. Even as an F2 champion he admits the step up to F1 was huge. His comments reflect that his preparation for Indy has been better because it doesn’t feel like a massive leap… yet.
Some might see this as disrespect. But Mick has tried from the outset of this season not to be overawed by the challenge ahead of him. That doesn’t mean he is underwhelmed by what the track or the race represents. I’d argue he is trying to keep emotions in check. And for Indy that is absolutely vital. Because come race day, whether it’s your first or 21st, the 500 can be emotionally overwhelming.
As for whether he “gets it” yet? Take him on his words the Monday after the 500.

@marshallpruett @RACERHQ A rather bold statement by @indycar that Prema (or its successor), Abel, DRR and HMD and other potential entrants are not welcome. IMO, not good news.

IndyCar finalizes rule restricting non-charter entries to Indy 500 only after 2026 racer.com/2026/04/28/ind… via @racerhq

@IndyCarChick Agree. About as unwelcoming to new entrants as can be. And, there is no practical route for Indy-only entries to go.

I can not wrap my head around this charter system. Explain it to me like I’m 5 and why would we want to do it and why it’s bad. And how will new, incoming teams, be able to be new, incoming teams??

.@IndyCar will stop letting open entries compete in races other than the Indy 500 after this season, in a move the series hopes will help suppliers plan better but could also assist in raising charter values. sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2026/…

@marshallpruett @RACERHQ A good, logical hire for the position. It will be interesting to see what subtle changes he brings over time. It will also be interesting to see if he becomes the public face of race operations and control.
