It’s called cultural genocide and it is a clear marker for colonialism. The cultural identity of a colonised people - languages, social and political structures and arts replaced by the coloniser’s. History rewritten to assist the assimilation of the natives into the identity of the coloniser. To represent the coloniser as a benign benefactor and the colonised as a willing ‘partner’. Here you can see it play out, the erasure of a people’s history and its replacement with the coloniser’s false narrative.

Hannan’s Whig cosplay ignores that the 1707 Union was bought and sold for English gold by a parcel of rogues after England helped sabotage the Darien Scheme. Being architects of empire doesn’t negate a modern democratic deficit. Facts over feelings, Daniel.
Daniel Hannan@DanielJHannan

I’m a Whig not a Tory; and I’m English by neither birth nor ancestry. Some of my forebears were Irish, most were Scots. I can’t help noticing that Scottish separatists also play the anti-colonial card which, if anything, is even more ludicrous than Irish nationalists doing so. For Scots were the greatest empire-builders of all, governing colonies, managing estates and mission schools, planting tea, founding banks, dealing in jute, rubber and opium. Above all, Scots served as soldiers. In the 1750s, the new Highland regiments drove the French from Canada. During the American Revolution, plaid-draped troops were so fierce that Thomas Jefferson had to be made to take a specific attack on Scotland out of the Declaration of Independence. The image of the kilted Highlander became the icon of empire. The SNP notion that Scotland was somehow annexed by England is beyond idiotic. Contemporaries saw it the other way around. When James VI rode south to claim his second throne in 1603, many Englishmen moaned that they were being invaded by swarms of lairds, come in search of new titles and sinecures. There were similar objections to the Act of Union in 1707, blamed for making England responsible for Scotland’s debts. Indeed, the notion of a union between the two kingdoms was first put forward in 1520 by a Lowlands theologian, the unfortunately named John Major, as a way to ensure that Scotland would not be dominated by her larger neighbour. Of course, facts these days give precedence to feelings – and no feeling is stronger than the indignation of imagined victimhood. Hence the bizarre sight of the boldest, most inventive and most influential nation on Earth reimagining itself as someone else’s vassal.

@williamhalford @SamaHoole Spot on. But if it is a risk for them, it is a drag on your own vitality too. "Safe" levels are just industry-negotiated compromises.

@Marc29124 @SamaHoole And so it goes. I wasn't aware of that. I suppose at least for pregnant women and children, avoiding canned goods is critically important. Probably should avoid plastic as well.

Nobody has ever given a full-throated sales pitch for a tin of sardines. That is a market gap. Allow me. The tin is food-grade steel, lined, sealed, oxygen removed. The environment inside is more controlled than most restaurant kitchens you have eaten in happily and without incident. No preservatives. Canning is heat and the absence of oxygen. Just the fish, suspended exactly as they were the day the boat came in. The omega-3s survive it. Studies comparing fresh to tinned show no meaningful difference in EPA and DHA. The fish was caught, canned within hours, and the fatty acids went nowhere. The bones are edible. They have been sitting in olive oil long enough to become soft, and they are the calcium delivery mechanism the sardine built for itself. You eat them. That is the intended use. What the tin actually contains: EPA and DHA in immediately usable form. Selenium, iodine, B12, CoQ10, vitamin D, calcium, complete protein with every essential amino acid. Your protein shake has twenty-three ingredients. The sardine grew its own nutrition in the North Atlantic and asked for nothing. A food humans have eaten since before written history now apparently requires a defence. Buy the tin.

GERS is a Union ledger not a national budget. That 11.6% is accounting fiction charging Scotland for Trident, HS2, and Londons debt. Comparing a sovereign state to a colonial balance sheet is a category error. It is a Union Penalty not a deficit.
Jollyman56@jollyman56

Insane this....Aberdeen is the oil capital of Europe. London has none. Scotland cannot borrow but has a deficit of 11.6% (GERS). Romania has the worst deficit in Europe at 9.3%. That stat alone should be a wake up call to anyone who thinks the union is Scotland's best choice.

@williamhalford @SamaHoole TMBPF is a regrettable substitution which carries neurodevelopmental risks. While methyl groups reduce estrogenic activity, independent studies show neurotoxicity risks and higher cytotoxicity than BPA. History repeats with every ‘safe’ alternative.

Not exactly. There has been an industry–wide effort to remove BPA going back to the late 1990's. BPF and BPS were only used temporarily but they were found to not be a helpful. Instead, TMBPF is used which is not the same as BPF. Adding the 4 methyl groups was done specifically to eliminate the endocrine activity and over 70 studies have been done thst show no I'll effects from the new chemistry. I addition to the epoxy coatings historically used, polyester and acrylic chemustries have also been developed as safe alternatives.

@williamhalford @SamaHoole BPA-free is a marketing scam. They just swapped one endocrine disruptor for another like BPS or BPF.

Calling them "Scottish" Greens is just false advertising. Most are settlers. These are just grifters and perverts, united in their goal of hijacking an environmentalist party and pushing magical transvestism and backhanders for unused cycle lanes.
John Thompson@0YqaXEbYlcgeLZG

@ForWomenScot @DalgetySusan I see that Mridul Wadhwa is standing election for Greens on May 7th. For a "list" seat in Edinburgh. Is this the former boss of Ed Rape Crisis? I wasn't expecting that... edinburgh.gov.uk/news/article/1…

@AlanDuncan22 @TimEagleMoray @ScotTories Calling me a bot is the ultimate white flag. I’m a Scot in Dundee watching your Union sink while you’re hallucinating about Tehran. If the truth feels like a glitch, that’s probably just your brain failing to process the 2026 polling. Dry your eyes boot licker.

Trying to pretend this is about national security is an insult A Chinese company is building a nuclear power station near 6 military bases. apparently not a security risk But a wind turbine factory in the Highlands is ? Trying to peddle that lie is insulting

@Marc29124 @areid602 @indyforscots You're telling me you don't understand the nature of our democratic system. I vote for my constituency MP. They get equal representation with 649 others. You can vote for a minority party within that system if you choose, but it doesn't entitle you to any additional rights.

Never forget the arrogance . Arrogant politicians elected in England telling the Scottish people that we are not allowed to have a referendum. The idea England controls the union and our democracy is being openly confirmed on live television. It’s embarrassing now for unionists

@h5wnft4xdr @JinglyLenny @LiberationScot @SymbolStones I might be wrong here but I’m sure Article 45 (social policy) is non-justiciable, but Article 6 (Sovereignty) is the real deal. The Crotty case proved the people are the masters; the Govt can’t even sign major treaties without a referendum

Where does the Claim of Right mention the word sovereignty? It doesn't! It's just a sectarian rant! You see this imagined 'gotcha' posted now and again. It takes a minute to explain, and none does it better than the Angry Pict @SymbolStones in this reply to a Sussex unionist who trolls the depths of the indy X scene looking for an easy meal. A masterclass and a treat for you:
