Today, March 20, 2026, the #lithium carbonate spot price (in dollars) reached $21,590 per metric ton in China, down 2.3%, but still 26% higher since the beginning of the year and 159% higher since the Second Great Bottom. Interestingly, at midday, all futures contracts were in positive territory, a sign that spot prices could recover on Monday.

This is one of the most important charts we've released in a while. 1) There is a markedly exponential trend in capex. If it continues, we will reach annualized trillion-dollar capex investments in 2026-2027. This is insane. 2) This trend suggests to me a latent slowdown incoming. Unless things get really crazy, companies won't be able to deploy $10T (10% of world GWP) of capex on AI annually.
