A similar incident happened at an apartment we stayed in a few weekends ago. We paid a ₦50k caution fee, and upon checkout, we were told that one glass had broken overnight. They initially said the caution fee was non-refundable. We offered to replace the entire set of glasses, but they refused. It took me threatening to call them out online before they finally refunded ₦45k. Some businesses only do the right thing when you apply pressure.

It was my friend’s guy’s birthday yesterday, and my friend rented an apartment that cost ₦350k per day. Before checking in, we were asked to pay an ₦80k damage deposit in case anything in the apartment got damaged. After we finished and checked out the next day, the apartment staff came to inspect the place. They checked everything and found no issues, but when they got to the bathroom, they complained that a small part of the Vaseline container was broken. Because of that, they said we had vi0lated the rules and refused to refund the ₦80k deposit. We tried explaining that we could simply buy a brand-new Vaseline to replace it, but they refused and kept saying, “the rules are the rules.”
