@FanMuskBee HOPE. Why do you say no one has found it. I answered several times now.

@angie_rasmussen Dr. Rasmussen - I'd be happy to engage with you on ideas of how to stand up for science without turning the NASEM into a partisan institution. My goal is to make science bipartisan again. Science benefits the entire nation regardless of who is in the White House.
English

If @Marcia4Science can’t stand up for science, what is the point of the Academy? Leadership isn’t complicity in your own destruction, nor does “fixing” science mean capitulating to fascism. No confidence vote now.

Feeling deeply grateful to my wonderful colleagues in the world’s greatest Chemistry department, @NUChemistry, for the incredibly kind celebration of my election to @theNASciences. Special thanks to our fantastic chair, Omar Farha, and all the amazing chemistry faculty. I'm excited to continue this journey with you all—and looking forward to teaching the next general chemistry course! @NorthwesternU @NUFeinbergMed @CHADNANO @NU_BMG_SQE

@R_H_Ebright @Rebecca21951651 @theNASEM @theNAMedicine Y’all have it backwards. The charter states that the government calls on the Academies to conduct studies, not the other way around. The NASEM stands ready to investigate the origin of COVID if asked. But the fact that we are independent means the govt can’t control the answer.
English

@Rebecca21951651 @theNASEM @theNAMedicine @Marcia4Science Because @theNASEM and @theNAMedicine actively participated in defrauding the global public and global policy makers about the origin of COVID.
English

Why didn't @theNASEM or @theNAMedicine do this?
It's the right thing to do & would even get a favorable hearing and funds from the Trump admin.

A belated realization: France is the only country where senior, highly accomplished virologists and biologists have collectively done the right thing - call on their elected representatives to investigate Covid origins. A big h/t to all of them! x.com/gdemaneuf/stat…

@Ayjchan @HansMahncke @theNASciences Did you click on his link? Interesting to know that forwarding an email to the Trump Whitehouse, without comment, is proof of being entangled in a conspiracy. For the record, I have never expressed any opinion on the origin of COVID. Evidence is scant; I am not an epidemiologist

National Academy of Sciences president @Marcia4Science says "NAS stands ready, as it always has, to advise the incoming administration."
How does @theNASciences plan to advise the new gov on #OriginOfCovid and research that can start pandemics?

@GabrielZ_Storm @rabernat China would probably be top of the list for the size of the scientific workforce given their population.
English

@rabernat @Marcia4Science Interesting read. Would the conclusion hold if we replace the laureate number with the ratio of laureate number vs the size of scientific work force?

This article from @Marcia4Science makes a really compelling case for the strong correlation between the US's success in science and our welcoming of immigrants.

As a former NSF Graduate Fellow, I can personally attest to the life-altering opportunities that this fellowship offered. I could afford graduate school, had my pick of top programs, and could select an advisor who was supportive and inspiring.
